I work in Aldi – here’s my five top tips to save money on your Christmas shopping and the exact time to visit store
IF you've not done it already, time is running out for the big Christmas food shop.
But with everyone else in the country doing the same thing, the hustle and bustle of festive preparations can feel overwhelming.
The countdown to Christmas doesn’t have to be stressful though - or expensive.
Graham Nicolson, Group Buying Director at Aldi Scotland, is sharing his top tips for navigating supermarket shopping during the most wonderful time of the year.
To help customers make the most of their shopping trips, Graham is offering his five hacks to save both time and money on the big Christmas shop, ensuring the season stays merry and bright.
Shop Exclusive Scottish Products
Aldi Scotland takes pride showcasing the best of Scottish produce, especially during the festive season, which shoppers can hear about first in the online and in-store Aldi leaflet.
Graham highlights some must-try items from this year’s range:
• Specially Selected Honey Roast Hot Smoked Salmon Side (£9.99 for 450g)
• Specially Selected Cheddar & Chorizo Cheese Bake (£2.99 for 150g)
• Glen Marnoch Single Malt Whisky (£18.20 for 70cl)
"The partnership between our buying team and our extensive network of local suppliers ensures that shoppers can enjoy high-quality locally produced festive foods, at incredible prices," Graham explains.
Avoid the Festive Rush
To avoid the crowds and ensure you have first pick of Aldi’s top festive offers, Graham reveals the exact day and time you should hit your nearest store.
He says: "Shopping earlier in the week and at quieter times of the day can make for a much calmer experience.
"Our shelves are restocked daily but heading in on a Tuesday or Wednesday if you can, especially before 10am, is a great way to avoid the weekend rush.”
Love Your Leftovers
The holidays often leave families with surplus food, that can easily go to waste.
Graham suggests turning leftovers into new meals for extra savings.
He says: “Look for recipes that utilise lots of fresh ingredients that are typically top of your festive shopping list.
"This means you don’t have to go out of your way to source any unusual or expensive items, and you can make the most out of your Christmas supermarket shop.”
Maximise Savings with Specialbuys
Aldi is renowned for its middle aisle bargains.
To take advantage of these in the lead up to Christmas, Graham says: “Preparation is key when it comes to festive shopping. Start by making a detailed list of your Christmas essentials and stick to it.
"Keep an eye on weekly Aldi Specialbuys as these offers rotate regularly and include unbeatable discounts on Scottish produce.”
Aldi Scotland is currently offering exclusive deals such as Scottish Christmas Cured Smoked Salmon (£3.79) and the Specially Selected Crackling Gammon Joint which serves 16 (£18.99).
The new large Melt-In-The-Middle pudding (£6.99) is also on sale from today, December 19.
These products not only save money but also add a unique twist to festive menus.
Stay Calm
This year, Aldi Scotland has launched the ‘Heidspace’ campaign to help customers reduce holiday stress.
With tools like downloadable meal planners and to-do lists available for free on Aldi Scotland’s social channels, shoppers can prepare early and stay organised.
Graham said: "The festive season should be about joy, not stress. Our Heidspace resources are designed to make planning as seamless as possible so our customers can enjoy time with loved ones."
