The unique name has left her friend so baffled that she decided to go online and ask strangers for their opinions.

Taking to Reddit, the friend shared a screenshot of she and her friend's text messages which revealed the name of the child.

Instead of loving the original name, her friend was left wondering how the mum hadn't noticed the name sounded exactly like an ashtray.

She wrote: "Best friend is having a baby… I googled it and apparently a few people have that name, but is it not literally the word 'ashtray'???"

In the text messages, the poster inquired about the name chosen for the upcoming baby.

The friend revealed that she and her partner had decided on "Ashtrae."

They also mentioned a previously considered name, "Ashton," noting they preferred it, the friend explained that both she and her partner liked "Ashton" and "Rae."

They both wanted a gender-neutral name, and those were their two top choices which they decided to put together to create Ashtrae.
