Ceilidh dances to be hosted for solo Scots as alternative for ‘app fatigued’ singles
THE festive period is a lively time of year with celebrations and families and friends coming together.
But it can also be a lonely time of year for many, including those of us who don't have a partner.
As December fast approaches and people across the country gear up for Christmas, two businesswomen are seeking to help seasonal singles.
Jennie Poynton and Sarah Spanswick are organising festive ceilidhs for solo Scots.
The two events will be held at The Rowantree in Edinburgh on November 28 and at Box Hub in Glasgow on December 5.
Jennie said: "People are experiencing dating app fatigue. They are sick of swiping left or right, hoping for a connection that often doesn’t feel genuine.
"Pip Social is all about ditching the awkwardness and creating a community of like-minded singles who can come together for good times, real conversations and genuine connections.
“We want to show single people that Christmas isn’t just about being paired up under mistletoe.
"It’s about celebrating who you are, where you’re at, and the people around you.”
Sarah said: “Men often are often reluctant to go to events alone. They are not as brave as women when it comes to turning up by themselves.

“We’re here to break that taboo. Pip Social is about normalising being single, and offering people the chance to get together with other single people who aren’t just interested in dating, but in making real friendships and having a laugh.”
She added: "This isn’t a stuffy event. If you’ve never done a ceilidh before, no problem.
"We’ll teach you the moves. Just bring your energy, your Christmas spirit, and your best dancing shoes.”
Jennie and Sarah were born in England but moved north of the border as they thought it would be a better place to be single.
After ditching their corporate consulting and procurement jobs, they set up Pip Social to offer an alternative to dating apps.
The pair organise meetup events to help single people increase their social circles, build confidence, and potentially spark romance.
They hosted their first gathering in Edinburgh in June last year and haven't looked back.
On Wednesday evening, Pip Social is hosting a board games night in Glasgow.
