The budgeting woman said she learnt the hacks from her own mum and used them in the winter to keep condensation and mould away.

She said: "Here's a tip for anyone's got a damp house or is renovating their home.

"Dehumidifies are normally the first thing on your list but instead you can just use salt and cat litter."

She placed the cat litter into pairs of cheap tights and knotted them up and placed them on the windowsill.

Fenrah then got an old takeaway box and filled it with salt to place on other windowsills too.

Both of the hacks are super budget friendly with cat litter costing just £2.30 from Sainsbury's and salt costing just 70p in Waitrose.

After two months of using the DIY dehumidifier she showed the results.

Her windows were mould and condensation free proving they worked a charm.

The box of salt had collected all of the condensation and became a sludgy mess.

While the tights filled with cat litter had become damp from soaking it up.

To make the most of the hack she also said she kept the salt.

" I would just keep the salt and use it for ice emergencies and also it's really good as weed killer," she added.

The clip has since gone viral on her TikTok account @with over 950k views and 17k likes.

People were quick to take to the comments thanking her for the tip and sharing their own.

5 ways to keep your house warm in winter

Property expert Joshua Houston shared his tips.

1. Curtains

"Windows are a common place for the outside cold to get into your home, this is because of small gaps that can let in air so always close your curtains as soon as it gets dark," he said.

This simple method gives you an extra layer of warmth as it can provide a kind of "insulation" between your window and curtain.

2. Rugs

"Your floor is another area of your home where heat can be lost and can make your home feel chilly," he continued. "You might notice on cold days, that your floor is not nice to walk on due to it freezing your feet.

"Add rugs to areas that don’t already have a carpet, this provides a layer of insulation between your bare floor and the room above."

3. Check your insulation

Check your pipes, loft space, crawlspaces and underneath floorboards.

"Loose-fill insulation is very good for this, and is a more affordable type of insulation, with a big bag being able to be picked up for around £30," Joshua explained.

4. Keep your internal doors closed

"Household members often gather in one room in the evening, and this is usually either the kitchen or living room," Joshua said.

"This means you only have to heat a small area of your home, and closing the doors keeps the heat in and the cold out."

5. Block drafts

Don't forget to check cat flaps, chimneys and letterboxes, as they can let in cold air if they aren't secure.

One person wrote: "Rice in socks works too!"

"Ohhh that's an interesting one! actually I use rice in socks to create heat bags!" Replied Fenrah.

Another commented: "Love this hack I’ve got damp in my bedrooms so will definitely trying this."

"Cat litter in sock in the car stops the screen doing the same," penned a third.

Meanwhile a fourth said: "Ohhh I'm gonna give this a go."

"Thank you!! My windows are terrible on cold mornings I will be doing this,” claimed a fifth.
