A SUSTAINABILITY expert revealed her top tips for making your fresh produce last longer.
She explained how most people are storing food such as bananas the wrong way.
In her viral , TikTok user Lottie Dalziel () broke down her top five storage hacks.
She explained why you should avoid keeping your banana bunches in a fruit bowl or on a flat surface.
"They should be hung because they release a gas that ripens fruit and vegetables," Lottie revealed.
She also advised her audience to keep their onions separate from their other produce.

The expert shared that onions cause other items, such as potatoes, to sprout.
Instead, Lottie recommended keeping your potatoes in a cool dark place.
She also revealed the best place to keep your tomatoes and it's not in the fridge.
According to the TikToker, simply leaving your tomatoes out in a bowl or on your kitchen counter can prolong their shelf life.

For her next tip, Lottie explained the best way to store your celery and carrots.
She demonstrated how to keep them in a "water bath" rather than in your fridge.
"[This] helps keep them [stay] nice and crunchy so they don’t go all soft and soggy," she said.
Finally, she revealed a simple trick for keeping your herbs fresh for longer.
Lottie recommended keeping them in a vase "like a beautiful bunch of flowers."
She explained that the water makes them last "a lot longer" and prevents them from going "all wilted and soggy."
The food expert then placed the vase of herbs in the door of her fridge.
