A WOMAN has hit back after her husband gobbled down all the food she'd prepared for herself - and then then blamed their 11-year-old son.

The woman fumed over the incident and explained she had only meal prepped so far in advance since she was having surgery and wouldn't be able to cook afterwards.

Taking to Reddit, the mum explained what happened, and others agreed her husband crossed the line.

"I just had surgery on my stomach and intestines almost two weeks ago," she explained in the Am I Overreacting? forum.

"Because of the surgery, I have to adhere to a very strict diet until I’m fully healed. If I stray from the diet, it could cause severe complications and possibly lead to death," she continued.

So, with this in mind she took the time to meal prep not just for herself and her diet needs post-surgery, but also for her husband and son, since she knew she'd be too unwell to cook for them.

"I also stocked up on snacks they liked and asked for. We also have a fairly strict budget right now, so I made everything from scratch to save some money," she said.

But all this planning ahead didn't make much of a difference, because when she was recovering at home after the surgery she discovered her husband had helped himself to all the food she painstakingly made.

"ALL of the meals I’d made for myself are GONE. Just completely emptied out. I’m really upset because I have no energy right now to make more," the mum said.

Not only that, but after a having to stick to a completely liquid diet immediately after the surgery, she was looking forward to finally being able to eat some of soft solids she'd made.

"I asked him about it and he blamed it on our son first. Which I know is bulls**t because the kid hates all of my special food with a passion lol.

"There’s no way he’d be sneaking my food.

"So I questioned my husband again. He admitted to it, said he’d been taking my meals to work as his lunch because he was 'too tired to make his own lunch' before work."

According to the mum, the husbands excuse didn't make any sense, since he'd always made his own lunch for work, which is when he admitted he was also "bored" of the lunches he's been making for himself.

"I am EXHAUSTED. This recovery period is kicking my ass," she fumed.

"Before surgery, I ran a mile every day. Now, I barely have enough energy to walk up the stairs."

"So when he admitted to taking my food, I just started crying."

To make matters worse, she slammed her husband for not helping enough post surgery anyway, leaving most of the household chores and heavy lifting tasks to their 11-year-old son.

Despite her tears, the husband didn't show any remorse over his actions and instead insisted she was "overreacting."

She continued: "He refuses to make me new meals, he refuses to help me make new meals, he says it’s been almost 2 weeks and I should be able to do stuff on my own.

"At this point, I’m seriously considering divorce. I mean, my son and I are already doing everything on our own already. And I know my kid won’t eat my diet food. Am I overreacting?"

Unsurprisingly, other Reddit users were stunned by her husband's actions are slammed him for being "selfish".

One said: "You did not over react. actually you didn't react nearly as strongly as I would have.

"I don't even have words for how awful that is. Knowing that you need this food for your health and survival and he eats it for lunch? Honestly he doesn't care about anyone but himself."

A second agreed: "Leave this man child. You are not his parent- you are his partner!!

"He should want to be there and help you while you’re going through this but instead he’s making your life more difficult? Hell no."

"He just showed you how little he cares for you. Instead of helping you, he’s hurting you, being a terrible role model to his son, and disrespecting you. You deserve better," someone else chimed in.
