A VET shared the canine breeds he does not recommend for first-time owners.
The dog expert explained the reasons why he thinks his list wouldn't be suitable for those without experience.
In his viral video, TikTok user Ben (@ben.the.vet) explained the reasoning behind his pet picks.
He revealed that his nine years of experience treating "thousands of dogs" informed his decisions.
For his first no-go breed, the vet named border collies as less than ideal for new owners.
Ben explained that the working breed thrives in an active environment and can get "really bored" in an ordinary home.

He continued that this boredom can lead to destructive behaviour including digging, excessive barking, and signs of aggression.
For anyone who isn't used to dogs, the vet said border collies may be "a lot to handle."
He also revealed that a "surprising" addition to his list is the popular beagle breed.
According to Ben, beagles can be difficult to train as their hunting origins mean they are "quite stubborn."

The canine expert also named another significant problem with beagles.
"They have a bit of a reputation as an escape artist breed," he explained.
Ben recommended having a secure garden if you want to adopt a beagle as they are also renowned for their poor recall.
For his next suggestion, the TikToker said he would advise new owners against Dalmatians.
He explained that Disney's 101 Dalmatians saw a spike in owners of the breed for a period of time.
However, inexperienced owners were shocked to learn the breed isn't as easily trained as the cartoon would make them appear.
Ben described the "really cute" breed as being "quite a handful" for new owners.
Best dog breeds for first-time owners
Dog behaviourist Will Atherton shared the best breeds for people with little experience.
- Labradors: The lively breed are easy to train, loyal to their owners, and aren't demanding when it comes to exercise.
- Golden Retrievers: The expert gave the same reasoning as Labradors.
- King Charles Spaniels: This low effort breed is known to be friendly and easily-trainable.
Finally, he revealed why huskies are one of the least suitable breeds for those with little experience.
"Getting any dog is a big commitment and will change your life but getting a husky is on a whole new level," he explained.
As well as needing a lot of exercise, a husky requires regular maintenance for it's coat.

And since they were bred to pull sleds across long distances, a quick walk every day is not enough to let out their energy.
This can cause them to become overweight, easily bored, and "become a handful" for their owners.
