A MUM has revealed that her lawn was covered in thousands of ants, which were biting her children, but shared that a free hack banished them completely.

Ants can pose a real nuisance in your garden, especially in the summertime, when they breed more rapidly.

And one mum has shared her complete frustration at how ants have been completely taking over her garden.

Taking to the Facebook Group, she said: "We have thousands and thousands of ants in the front and back gardens.

"Can I put ant powder down on my lawn and flower bed?

"Or will it all die?

"I have children and two dogs.

"I've spent lots of hours making my garden look nice and the kids are getting bitten."

The post was flooded with helpful responses from avid gardeners.

One person said: "No need for any powders.

"I’d keep the area as wet as possible for a few days they should move on if it’s damp."

They continued: "Make sure to get in all the cracks and crevices.

"Do it morning, noon and night and don't let it dry out in between.

"The water has never let me down yet."

To get rid of ants using water, simply soak their nest for 15 to 20 minutes saturating the soil.

Tips for keeping pests from your garden

  • Plant companion plants such as peppermint to repel rats.
  • Place , over your flowerbeds.
  • Fill open-top containers with beer and place in soil to repel slugs.
  • Spray plants with , to repel ants, flies, and spiders.
  • Dust your flowerbeds with .
  • Mix 1 tablespoon dish soap, 10 drops peppermint oil, and 4 cups water and spray on flowerbeds.
  • Place eggshells around your plants to protect from slugs and snails.

This will cause the ants to drown.

The creatures can survive underwater for about 24 hours, so you may need to repeat the treatment the next day, to ensure that they are all gone.

This is a much less harmful method than using ant powder, which can kill lots of other insects, and is toxic to cats.

The gardening fan added that you can also try using peppermint oil to repel plants.
