Talking about the new Kappa collection, Primark bosses said: “Dive into the latest trends in Kappa x Primark sportswear with our exciting collab collection.

“Featuring iconic styles from Kappa x Primark joggers, perfect for any casual outing, to tank tops, socks and cosy Kappa x Primark hoodies, ideal for layering.”

The sports brand gained popularity in the eighties and nineties after winning sponsorships with elite football teams including Juventus, AC Milan and FC Barcelona.

As a result, people across the UK most likely owned something from the sports brand if they grew up in that era.

Now, Primark is bringing the brand back to everyone's attention with its collaboration.

From joggers, to tracksuits, and sports bags, the clothing retailer believes the clothes are perfect for “hitting the gym or hanging out with friends.”

which is aimed at both females and males, is priced between £3.50 to £24.

Staff at the high street giant's Edinburgh store gave shoppers a sneak peek of the new range in a TikTok video this week.

They said: "We’re taking it back to the 90’s with our collaboration with Kappa. Leisure and performance pieces in moody hues to get you through any workout!"

And shoppers have left impressed by the retro sports brand's new look.

"Ooh how Kappa has changed. These are actually nice", said one.

A second wrote: "[Kappa] clothes are ugly but this range is cute.";

A third added: "90’s fashion is back."

Meanwhile, a fourth echoed: "Seems every 90s trend is coming back…not bad. Some decent stuff there. The hoodies look good."

But not everyone is sold on the Kappa collection, with it bringing back bad childhood memories.

One commented: “Back in my day you went to school wearing kappa you got beat up.”

Someone else chimed in: “If you wore Kappa back in the day you were concerned poor.”

And a third fumed: “Who wears kappa in 2024?”

The story behind Kappa

Kappa became a leading sportswear brand after it was born in Italy 1967.

Since then some of the world's biggest names have worn their clothes, as its streetwear collection reflects on its norther Italian roots.

The “Omini” logo stands for quality, humanity and authenticity, and the brand produces distinctive apparel for sports including football, basketball, volleyball, autoracing, skiing, sailing, golf, fencing and martial arts.

Their website reads: "Kappa was born of a sock and underwear company named Maglificio Calzificio Torinese (MCT) in 1916 in the Italian city Turin.

"Kappa was created as a sub-brand of the Aquila brand as a result of a production problem that had caused a loss in sales.

"The production problem was fixed and all new product was stamped with a K, standing for the German word for control, Kontrollen.  Sales surged and in 1967 the K was formally called Kappa, the Greek letter for K."
