Reddit user Spygirl20 revealed that she tried a hair growth experiment that left positive results.

She explained in a that she used "various techniques" to help naturally grow her locks.

She measured her average hair growth for three months before starting it to get an accurate measurement.

"On average, my hair grows 0.5 inches a month," she said.

As part of the experiment, she started massaging her scalp every night.

"I used a silicone scalp massage brush but I’m sure your fingers work just as good," she said.

It was so simple that she admitted that she often did it while watching television and found it was "really relaxing."

She did it for about five minutes daily.

She also used a hair growth oil three times a week and used the brush even on the days she wasn't oiling.

The Reddit user specifically used The Ordinary's Multi-Peptide Serum for Hair Density, $15.

It is a lightweight serum proven to bring about "fuller, healthier-looking hair."

The serum helps with regrowth, maintains scalp health, and improves thinning spots on the scalp and hairline.

It also has made a significant difference in people with androgenetic alopecia, according to the product description.

PROOF IS IN THE POUF

For the second half of the experiment, she also measured her hair after three months of doing the massaging and using The Ordinary serum.

"It grew one inch those months," she said.

The Ordinary serum works with different hair textures, including fine and thick 4C locks, curly and wavy, and naturally gray or white.

She joked that her "little experiment was flawed in many ways," but she had fun at home doing it.

Other Redditors tried the same technique.

"I noticed that my hair just shot out of my head when I used to oil and massage, but I never quantified it, so thanks for doing your little experiment that backs up my anecdotal data," one wrote.

"Now I have to get back into a daily massage routine!"

They also said that since they started using a scalp scrubber when shampooing with firm pressure, they "feel like it's helping."

THE PROS WEIGH IN

Celebrity stylist Ryan Pearl previously told The U.S. Sun about the benefits of scalp massaging.

"Massage your scalp gently to avoid causing damage to hair follicles," Pearl advised.

But be mindful that overdoing it can cause more harm than good.
