‘Council house now looks like a Tudor mansion’ people gasp as DIY fan shows mega makeover with Wilko buys
A WOMAN has revealed that she gave her home a mega makeover, without breaking the bank.
So if you want to give your space an upgrade, but the cost of living crisis has made your purse feel tighter than ever before, then fear not, you’ve come to the right place.
A DIY fan, who posts on social media under the username ‘The Russell’s’ explained how she gave her hallway a glow up for less than £100, leaving many open-mouthed.
Using bargain buys from Homebase and Wilko, the savvy woman explained: “We panelled our hallway for less than £100!”
The DIY enthusiast added: “We already had the tools but even if you don’t, you just need a saw, angle cutter box and tape measure… oh and a paint brush/roller.
“Either way, it's cheaper than paying someone.”

The content creator gave her followers a close-up look at her hallway prior to its mega makeover - although it looked incredibly neat and clean, the plain white walls were lacking the wow factor.
But to add some style and personality to the space, the bargain hunter used MDF Shaker Panelling Kits from Homebase, which she nabbed for £15 each.
Each pack is complete with 10 slats, as the user penned: “We bought four packs but only needed two so took two packs back.
“At the time it was buy one get one half price. We used two which cost £30 for the panelling.”
The woman, who is from the UK, then shared: “We cut them at 45 degrees using the mitre box. Trying to get the exact angle isn’t easy. This worked for us.”
She explained that she used Frog Tape to keep things neat and also used a Matt Emulsion Gentle Taupe paint from Wilko, which was just £25, to paint the panelling.
Thanks to the quick and easy DIY project, the woman’s stunning hallway is now incredibly chic and trendy.
Thrilled with her hallway’s new look, she later wrote: “Panelling took a day. Paint took two days to allow each coat to dry.”
