The floor-length dress had off the shoulder sleeves and a satin band detailing under the waist.

While the dress was stylish, many people slammed it as a choice for a wedding.

One said: “Sorry it’s not formal enough and fabric looks cheap, look at the models tummy, you see even the belly button.

“And she has no bumps but you see everything.”

A second added: “Pleated knit would make this too casual for me, it’s basically a sweater dress.”

Meanwhile, a third said: “As a knitter, give this one a pass. It will slowly sag off your body.”

However, some people were more diplomatic.

One person commented: “If you have the body to rock that dress it’s a huge yes for me.

“That beautiful gown is unforgiving and prolly not great to dance in but for a “ stander” it’s awesome.”

And one shared: “This is 100% fine for California cocktail.”

So what should you wear for a cocktail dress code?

Dress shop Adrianna Papell stated: “Wedding cocktail attire is a blend of formal and casual attire.

“Unlike a formal wedding, you don’t need to wear a long dress but can instead opt for a midi or tea-length dress.

“Most importantly, your dress should strike the right balance between elegance and comfort.”

Wedding Guest Outfit Etiquette

If you're struggling to decided on a dress to see you through wedding season, here's a few rules on what not to wear so you don't get in trouble.

  • Folklore says that wearing red at a wedding means you slept with the groom.
  • Casual attire like jeans and flip flops should always be avoided.
  • Any colour that could be picked up as white or cream - even if it's not.
  • Most would agree that your cleavage needs to be covered.
  • Wearing white is a massive no-no if you're not the bride.
