Stylist reveals why you shouldn’t wash your hair the same day as a flight – and the way to care for locks when you land

An easy hairstyle keep locks in control during your travels

FLYING can be stressful, but that doesn't mean your hair's health has to take a backseat while navigating the friendly skies.

A celebrity hair stylist has shared his low-maintenance haircare tips while on the go.

The hair guru explained that while it's important to maintain a proper routine during travels, it doesn't have to be hard.

"A pre-, during, and post-flight hair care routine is essential to maintain healthy hair," he said.

"There’s been a huge rise in in-flight skincare routines, but people often forget about their hair.

"The plane environment can be super drying for your strands, especially if your hair is already susceptible to dryness - but there [are] a few steps you can take to keep your hair healthy while traveling by plane."

To keep your hair hydrated, he recommends nourishing the strands from the inside out.

"The air inside a plane is extremely dry, which can lead to dehydrated hair, so hydration is essential," Ferretti said.

"Make sure to drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your flight to ensure your hair is well-hydrated."

Before a flight, he recommends adding a lightweight moisture boost to your locks, like his

, which he said is formulated to "absorb excess oil and sweat" without leaving any "powdery or talc residue behind."

Styling steps, such as avoiding heat, using protective hairstyles, and silk accessories, can also make a huge difference to the health of your strands.

"Tight hairstyles can damage certain hair types; a soft, messy braid is a perfect way to keep your hair in control," he said.

"These styles minimize exposure to the dry air and reduce risk of tangling and breakage. Plus, they can be a stylish way to arrive at your destination.

"Silk is much gentler on your hair and reduces friction, which can help prevent breakage and frizz," he added.

"A silk scarf or pillowcase is a great travel accessory to keep your hair smooth."

Post-flight care and light TLC can restore much-needed moisture back to dehydrated hair.

"Rinse with cool water to help close the cuticles and lock in moisture. Apply a nourishing hair mask or oil to replenish any lost hydration; this will help restore your hair’s natural balance and shine," he said.

"With a little bit of preparation and the right products, you can keep your hair looking and feeling its best no matter where your travels take you."
