She shared the hack on Reddit’s beauty forum in response to a user curious about tips from around the world.

“Putting a little amount of oil in your belly button at night gives you smooth lips the next morning,” she wrote using the handle.

“I don't know the science or sorcery behind it but it has worked for me every time. 

“I use either mustard oil (most prevalent in my region) or clarified butter (called 'ghee').”

Another Redditor asked about the possibility of swapping the recommendations for olive oil.

“I've never used it personally,” she replied.

“But I assume it should work because liquid fat is the common element between the oil, clarified butter, and olive oil.”

Many Redditors confessed they had never heard of the oils being used as a remedy for chapped lips.

“I have ghee... I’m going to try this tonight.. lol… I’ll feel like I’m basting myself for the oven but I have never ever heard this,” one person said.

“Whaaaat I’m going to try this,” another wrote.

“I’ve seen several things recently about doing this with castor oil,” a third chimed in. 

“Supposedly it has many benefits.”
