DURING the winter months, clutter can easily build up in rooms as we spend more time inside.
But as the bric a brac grows, it can start to make your home look messy - and at worst, make certain rooms overwhelming to be in.
And we all know it: the more the clutter builds, the harder it feels to tackle.
Luckily for us, organisation and decluttering experts the Style Sisters have shared how you can have a big spring decluttering session without getting overwhelmed.
Their trick is to go room-by-room and implement long-term storage solutions that help you stay organised, preventing the need for another detoxing session.

THE KITCHEN
“Our kitchens are often the hub of the home and used every day, so it is important to have regular detoxes here,” Charlotte and Gemma said.
Your first port of call is to bin any out-of-date items to ensure your kitchen “remains practical and fully functional”.
“Opening kitchen cupboards shouldn’t feel overwhelming,” they continued.
“But if you’re greeted with piled cans, packets of food and herbs and spices without any order, cooking can quickly become a headache.
“We love to use cupboard turntables which are multi-functional and will totally transform the space.
“For extra organisation, use clear storage jars for items like dry pasta, flour, sugar, biscuits and the like.”
This decanting tip is loved by the likes of Stacey Solomon, Sam Faiers and the Kardashian sisters for elegant pantries and cupboards.
“Labelling the storage jars is a great way to keep things looking uniform and in order,” the Style Sisters added.
“Say goodbye to eclectic colourful packaging and hello to streamlined, stylish kitchen cupboards.”
THE BEDROOM
Your bedroom should be your sanctuary; the place you go to for relaxation, to wind down from the day and for a good night’s sleep.
Because of this, the Style Sisters stressed the importance of ensuring your chamber is free from clutter.
“Storage that prevents items from being on show is recommended for the bedroom,” they said.
“The less your eyes are drawn to items the better as this will help you switch off.
“Choose calming colours that aren’t too stimulating.”
The pair also advise keeping sleek, velvet hangers in your wardrobe so you feel incentivised to hang things up.
A simple switch to make your bedroom feel decluttered can be to change your bedding, they added.
The Style Sisters Top 3 Decluttering Tips
Charlotte Reddington and Gemma Lilly have over 15 years experience decluttering and organising celebrity homes...
- Out with the old, before in with the new
"It may sound a little ruthless but a one in, one out rule in your home and wardrobe can be effective to avoid over accumulating items in your home," they said.
"It can also make you more mindful about the purchases you are making."
- Categorise and contain
"In any space, however big or small – from a utility room to your make-up box - organising items by category is the perfect way to keeping super organised," they said.
"This allows you to know exactly where everything is and what you’ve got.
"Plus, it will make it super easy for the rest of the household to put away and keep tidy."
- Storage, storage and more storage!
"Storage is key, especially if space is an issue in the home or if the room is used for items like storing toys for children," they said.
"Consider decorative storage baskets, side boards with plenty of storage or even a media wall or bookshelves with doors."
“Choosing crisp white sheets which are plain or have a simple pattern,” they said.
“The bed is the focal point in most bedrooms, so the bedding can make a big impact on the overall look and feel of the space.”
THE BATHROOM
The Style Sisters believe that everyone should strive to have a “spa-like bathroom” - because ultimate relaxation isn’t just for celebs.
However, this means staying on top of what’s in your bathroom and regularly detoxing products.
“The bathroom can easily and quickly become cluttered with products,” Charlotte and Gemma warned.
“To prevent this happening, we recommend a ruthless detox, eliminating products you no longer use or need.

“This is a great time to check expiry dates too.”
The pair hammered home that your bathroom “should be a space you can unwind and relax in, free from clutter”.
“There are so many space saving items available on the market now for the bathroom, so it’s pretty easy to create an organised space,” they advised.
