My tips will prevent acne while you’re on your period – a free trick will make your skincare absorb better too
A BEAUTY expert has shared a hack that prevents acne while you're on your period.
Her advice not only combats acne but also helps skincare sink in better.
Angela Rosoff, a certified face yoga method teacher and beauty expert, shared how to tailor a daily routine to a menstrual phase.
Rosoff advises giving potentially sensitive skin a break during the first five days of your period due to low estrogen and progesterone levels.
"Minimize your makeup use to allow your skin to breathe. Swap any harsh formulas for soothing products, and treat breakouts with spot treatments, moisturizing masks, and mild cleansers," she said.
As your period wanes and estrogen levels begin to creep back up, the expert recommends giving your skin a little TLC.
"Keep your skincare routine simple, using mild hydrating products, and safeguard against environmental irritants," she said.
"If makeup is a must, look for comedogenic formulas, which are less likely to clog your pores and stop your skin from recovering."
Ovulation on day 14 is when your skin "thrives," Rosoff explained.
"Help it maintain its perfect health for longer by using mild moisturizers and serums that offer plenty of hydration and nourishment," she said.

For the remaining two weeks of your cycle, Rosoff advises combating oiliness and skin dryness with ingredients like niacinamide or tea tree oil.
Additional tools and lifestyle changes can help regulate your skin as it navigates the ups and downs of a period.
A simple facial massage can help reduce bloating and encourage lymphatic drainage.
A free tip can even help improve the efficacy of your skincare products without much effort.
"Steam opens up your pores to improve product absorption, which can be particularly useful during the follicular period when your skin is beginning its recovery," Rosoff explained.
"However, if your skin is particularly sensitive or acne-prone, steam with caution—and cut it out completely at the first sign of a breakout."
For those with intense acne breakouts, the skincare expert advises looking into LED therapy.
" If you regularly suffer from inflammation or acne, invest in an LED light therapy device, such as a mask or wand," she said.
"Red light speeds up healing and encourages collagen formation, while blue light fights the bacteria causing your breakouts."
Better lifestyle habits, she added, such as a cleaner diet, can help reduce the harmful effects of hormonal changes.

"Certain foods are almost certain to set off hormonal acne. Go easy on the dairy, sugar, and processed foods," she said.
"Reach for fruit, vegetables, and food rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as fish, instead, which will keep your hormones in check."
