Dr. Michael Aziz spoke exclusively to The U.S. Sun about his skincare go-tos.

Speaking on anti-aging efforts, he broke down some of the most effective ingredients.

He described some of the classic products, vitamins A and C and retinol, as "excellent for nurturing the skin and maintaining a glowing complexion."

However, there was a lesser-known ingredient that he said might be more effective.

"Studies indicate that a peptide called GHK-Cu may offer superior results compared to both retinol and vitamin C," he explained.

The health expert also cautioned against over-exposing your skin to UV rays.

"Limiting sun exposure is crucial for maintaining youthful skin," the doctor said.

"UV rays can significantly age skin, leading to wrinkles, sun spots, and an increased risk of skin cancer."

He pointed out that, "while sunlight is necessary for vitamin D synthesis, excessive sun exposure damages DNA."

The skincare pro recommended opting for chemical sunscreens over mineral ones as they offer better protection.

"Although Bemotrizinol is effective and isn't absorbed through the skin, it's not FDA-approved in the U.S. and must be purchased online," he explained.

Dr. Aziz also broke down some of the popular beauty trends in the skincare industry.

"Many skincare products are ineffective or overpriced as their molecules are too large to be absorbed by the skin," he explained.

He added that products containing alcohol often dry out the skin and contain parabens that may pose health risks if absorbed.

What is GHK-Cu?

According to the experts, GHK-Cu can aid in the following:

  • Tighten loose skin and reverse thinning of aged skin
  • Repair protective skin barrier proteins
  • Improve skin firmness, elasticity, and clarity
  • Reduce fine lines, depth of wrinkles, and improve structure of aged skin
  • Smooth rough skin
  • Reduce photodamage, mottled hyperpigmentation, skin spots, and lesions
  • Improve overall skin appearance
  • Stimulate wound healing
  • Protect skin cells from UV radiation
  • Reduce inflammation and free radical damage
  • Increase hair growth and thickness, enlarge hair follicle size

"It's best to use natural ingredients like cocoa butter, shea butter, coconut oil, and vitamins A and C," he said.

Dr. Aziz also recommended looking into red light therapy if you're hoping to "promote younger-looking skin."

The emerging treatment is available in a variety of forms including "affordable face masks" which, when used regularly, "can stimulate collagen production."

He also advised anyone hoping to combat signs of aging to incorporate natural fats like olive oil, avocados, and butter into their diet.

"[They] can enhance skin glow, thanks to the fat-soluble vitamins they contain, such as vitamin A, which is vital for healthy skin," he explained.
