Oh Mama

My daughter gets teased because of her unique name – people tell me to change it but I won’t, I want her to be special

Some even suggested getting the daughter to pick her new name

CHOOSING a baby name is hard - whether you picked it out of a book or it was passed through the family.

One mum has been slammed over the ‘unique’ name she gave her baby but refuses to change it as she wants her daughter to be ‘special’.

To make matters worse, the not so run of the mill moniker has made the little girl the centre of attention for all the wrong reasons.

Like many concerned mums, the woman has turned to the internet for support.

In a post on Reddit, she revealed that her seven-year-old had been bullied over the name and wrote: "She's been coming home from school and saying kids are making fun of her name."

So what name could possibly cause so many issues?

Rather than being controversial or offensive, the original poster revealed that her little one’s name is Blayzee (yes, you read that right).

Though the name sounds like a kids’ cartoon character or a new Bratz doll, it hasn’t won over the other children at school.

Or their parents for that matter.

The Redditor added: "My seven year old's name is Blayzee and recently she's been coming home from school and saying kids are making fun of her name.

"She even said her best friend said her mum must have been young when I named her."

Unsurprisingly, the other mums also had a lot to say about the unusual name and some even held the mum responsible for the relentless bullying.

I’m a teacher and this is worst baby name ever – no one can say it and the parents used punctuation instead of letters (1)

One even angrily wrote: "Don't give your kids a stupid name for the sake of being 'special'.

"It's terrible when kids are teased. As a mum you need to own your mistake."

Others agreed, with another arguing: "Odd names are isolating for a child. You thought it was cute but others can't spell it, remember it or understand its pronunciation."

They added: “So how does anyone be-friend your child with this huge barrier to forming a friendship?"

Some even accused the Redditor of being selfish with her choice of name.

"Did you name her this for you or for her? Because it's not working for her," pointedly asked a third.

With the seven-year-old struggling to fit in at school, a few in the forum even suggested changing her name entirely.

"It's an awful name, so you need to allow your child to choose a real name now," argued a fourth in the comments.

As the post continues to go viral on Reddit, teachers have also been calling out the bad baby names in their classroom.
