GET SERVED

I’m a waitress and I have no problem shouting at your kids – parents never tip and try to get me sacked but I don’t care

The kids almost caused an accident by running around the restaurant, so the waitress took matters into her own hands

A WAITRESS has been slammed as 'rude' after shouting at a group of kids who were misbehaving in the restaurant she works at.

The worker, named Sarah, said the kids were being naughty, running around and even almost made her spill hot drinks as she was trying to serve other diners.

She took to Reddit to explain what happened, leaving people divided over if she had the right to yell at the kids or not - but as far as she is concerned she was right, and she'd even do it again.

"These kids had been running riot, screaming and yelling and playing what I think was tag.

"I was carrying a large tray of hot drinks when one of the kids goes whirring past me," she said.

The group of five kids came in with their parents during the busy lunch period but were more focused on running around and playing than eating, and their parents didn't seem to care to stop them, Sarah explained.

"The parents hadn't said anything at this point even though their kids had been running around for the past 30 minutes, one of them had already started throwing a fit and trying to undress themselves," she said.

"I shouted at the kids and told them they need to either sit down at their table and shut up, or stay outside where they can't get hurt by running into us with our hot drinks.

Although Sarah admitted she probably could've been more polite to the brood of kids she didn't regret her actions.

"I understand I could have been more polite, but there were about 100 people in the restaurant at this point and they had nearly crashed into me with boiling pots of tea," she said.

But when the parents heard about what happened they kicked up a fuss and complained to Sarah's boss, since one of the kids started to cry after being told off.

"They wanted me fired for quote 'trying to discipline their kids'.

"I get what I said wasn't good but at least it stopped their kid from getting third-degree burns from a pot of tea," she fumed.

After sharing the encounter on social media people assured the waitress she was right to stop them from yelling and playing around people carrying scolding drinks and food.

"When are such parents going to be more responsible and be able to discipline their children when in public? It's not hard. You did the right thing," one commented.

A second agreed: "You did nothing wrong except for having too much patience."

But others thought it wasn't Sarah's place to discipline someone else's kids, one said: "You should have said something to the parents, or asked your manager to do so before you reached the boiling point."

"I would've kept my mouth shut, it's not worth dealing with those kinds of parents," another said.

And another agreed: "Your manager should be on your side, but you could've handled it a lot better."

However, Sarah noted she wasn't the only person to warn the family before she yelled at the kids, so by the time she said something they were well aware of what was happening.
