Shoppers race to Tesco as vegetables are reduced to just 15p ahead of Easter, but some rage it’s ‘Clubcard blackmail’

WITH the bank holiday weekend just days away, many supermarkets are slashing the price of fruit and veg right now.
If you still need ingredients for your Sunday roast, Tesco is currently selling veg for just 15p - but only if you have a Clubcard.
Rather than gatekeeping this incredible deal, one happy customer decided to share what was on offer ahead of the long weekend.
Posting on Facebook, they showed users just how much they could save by signing up for the Tesco loyalty scheme.
Having uploaded several photos in the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group, it showed rows and rows of discounted items in store.
Though carrots are usually 52p in the supermarket, Clubcard members could find a large bag for just 15p.
A generous packet of ‘all-rounder’ potatoes was also this price, despite them normally costing £1.39 per bag.
If you fancy onion gravy with your roast, you are in luck as a large bag has been reduced from 99p as part of the Clubcard offer.
Even bulkier root vegetables such as swedes and white cabbage were also heavily reduced, even though they usually cost 69p and 80p each.
With so much food on offer right now, it’s unsurprising that many savvy shoppers have already begun stockpiling the veg.
One excited fan commented: “Need to go Tesco for veg…again.”
Another added: “I need to stock up…my fridge is empty.”
“I need to buy another fridge,” joked a third, after seeing the Facebook post.
Some savvy shoppers were even planning to make the discounted food stretch beyond the bank holiday weekend.
“I mash them [potatoes] with swede or carrots, and freeze them using the plastic takeaway,” explained a fourth, as members of the group swapped recipes.
While most customers were excited by the discounts, some claimed that it was unfair to only offer these discounts to Clubcard holders.
Having seen the offer, one commentator pointedly wrote: “Only if you have a club card.”
Though most people are willing to sign up for a free loyalty card, another unimpressed Facebook user claimed they’d stopped shopping at the supermarket.
“This puts me off Tesco, Clubcard only. All the other supermarkets are doing the same deals but Tesco is the only one with their Clubcard,” they moaned.
Continuing, they wrote: “I don’t shop at Tesco anymore since Christmas coz they did the same deal at Christmas. I prefer the other supermarkets instead.”
If you do want to cut down the cost of your food shop, signing up for a free Clubcard might save you a small fortune later on.
Unlike other supermarkets, Tesco is keeping their discounted veg on shelves until April 2 - making it the longest-running offer.
You can also earn one point for every pound you spend in-store, which can later be exchanged for petrol vouchers, money off your groceries or even discounted days out.
For anyone that doesn’t live near to a Tesco, you can find similar deals at most major supermarkets – just in time for your Sunday roast.
TESCO'S Clubcard scheme allows shoppers to earn points as they shop.
These points can then be turned into vouchers for money off food at the supermarket, or discounts at other places like restaurants and days out.
Each time you spend £1 in-store and online, you get one point when you scan your Clubcard.
Drivers using the loyalty card get one point for every two litres spent on fuel.
One point equals 1p, so 150 points gets you a £1.50 money-off voucher, for example.
You can double their worth when you swap them for discounts with "reward partners".
For example, £12 worth of vouchers can be swapped for a £24 three-month subscription to Disney+.
Or you can swap 50p worth of points for £1 to spend at Hungry Horse pubs.
Where you can spend them changes regularly, and you can check on the Tesco website what's available now.
Tesco shoppers can also get Clubcard prices when they have the loyalty card.
The discounted items change regularly and without a Clubcard you'll pay a higher price.
These Clubcard prices are usually labelled on shelves, along with the non-member price.
But it's worth noting that just because it's discounted doesn't necessarily make it the cheapest around, and you should compare prices to find the best deal.
You can sign up to get a Tesco Clubcard in store or online via the Tesco website.
