‘Look at the difference!’ Banish black mould from bathroom grout in minutes with Stacey Solomon’s two-ingredient hack
One of the ingredients is already sitting in your kitchen
MOULDY grout is a common problem for many households – luckily, Stacey Solomon’s cleaning team has come to rescue with an easy two-ingredient hack.
The savvy mum-of-five, Stacey, revealed how you can banish stubborn bathroom grout in an episode of Sort Your Life Out on BBC One.
Cleaning whizz Iwan Carrington had a great hack for mouldy grout in the bathroom.
And it involved bicarbonate of soda and Hydrogen Peroxide.
He mixed the two together until they form a cement-like paste.
“What I like to do is put my rubber gloves on and apply directly onto the grout with the paste,” Iwan noted.
After applying the mixture on the dirty area, the cleaning whizz let it do its magic for around ten minutes, before scrubbing the paste away with an electric appliance.
Although this step with the tool isn’t essential, it is recommended that fellow cleaning enthusiasts wear eye production as the mixture can splatter.
Iwan then pointed out at the mould that had been lifted from the tiles and said: “Look at that difference.”
Often hailed as a cleaning staple, bicarbonate of soda is known for its gentle abrasive properties that help to eliminate tough stains and grime – all without causing damage to the surfaces.
Meanwhile, Hydrogen Peroxide is made up of hydrogen and oxygen molecules, which lifts mould from clothing, walls and wood.
However, as the cleaning product is a bleaching agent, it’s advised to wear chemical resistant gloves when using it around your house.
Bicarbonate of soda can be found for 65p from Aldi, while shoppers can purchase Hydrogen Peroxide for £4.59 from Amazon.
You could also try using white vinegar or lemon juice.
For white vinegar, simply fill a spray bottle with half warm water, half white vinegar before spraying it on to the grout.
Leave for five to 10 minutes before scrubbing away with a brush.
As for lemon juice, not only will the fruit’s acid help with mould stains on grout, but it will also leave your bathroom smelling fresh and zingy too.
After cleaning the grout, it’s a good idea to put a few steps into place to stop the mould growing back.
Quick clean – You could use vinegar spray regularly on grout can help prevent mould from returning.
Wipe down – After showering or bathing, you could also quickly wipe the walls and floors with an old towel to soak up any leftover moisture.
Improve ventilation – If you haven’t got one already, invest in a good quality extractor fan.
In addition, open windows daily to get fresh air circulating around the space.
