But the soon-to-be wife explained that she thinks the floor-length gown is ‘too bridal’.

The dress in question is a very pale pink, with sparkle, floral detailing.

Opening up about the frock on the community sharing platform, the engaged woman simply penned: ‘MOB [mother of the bride] at late summer mountain wedding.’

She then explained: “My mum wants to wear this.

“I told her I think it looks a fair bit too bridal."

Not only this, but the woman also shared: “I’m not too worried about people wearing things that are a little too much for cocktail attire.

“I told people they should use our wedding as an excuse to wear that fun and fabulous outfit they never have an occasion for.

“I love costuming and artsy fashion so I’m happy if people want to go a little over the top and rock it.

“Our wedding is outdoors and in a rustic setting so it did not make sense to up the dress code above cocktail for everyone, but individuals are welcome to express themselves.”

But Reddit users were left gobsmacked at the mother’s dress option - which many took to the comments to express.

I've found the perfect spring wedding guest dress - it's from ASOS & people say it’s so nice I'd even upstage the bride

Not only did people describe it as ‘too bridal’ but others were convinced it was in fact a wedding dress.

One person said: “That IS a wedding dress in my eyes.”

Bridal expert reveals the must-have trends for 2024

Event whizz Tsitsi Lynn Makuni claimed that mini gowns, wearing bows for tying the knot and donning bold accessories are among this season’s must-haves for marriage, The Sun reported.

RING THE CHANGES - brides are opting for not one, but two dresses.

HITCH UP THE SKIRTS - short dresses were a huge hit at the Scottish Wedding Show’s October Catwalk and Tsitsi said more bridal boutiques are now offering shorter styles.

BRIGHT NOT WHITE - white and ivory dresses are no longer a given as more designers offer pastel options, and we will see a demand in more bold colours too.

BE BOLD - the accessories, too, will be as bold as our dresses. Expect to see dramatic headbands, pearl-embellished veils, elegant gloves and retro sunglasses.

TAKE A BOW - from small bows on headpieces and shoes to oversized bows on dresses, this is a wedding trend that’s showing no signs of slowing down, the expert revealed.

While there isn’t one specific colour or style that the mother of the bride should wear, unless you’ve received approval from the couple, it's best to steer clear from white, ivory or champagne hues as not to take attention away from the bride.

According to , traditionally, the mother of the bride's gown should compliment (but not match) the colour of the wedding party's attire.

For instance, if the bridal party is wearing black cocktail dresses, as the mother, something in silver or grey would work perfectly.

Or, if the bridesmaids are wearing cobalt blue, a navy dress would be spot on.
