My mum wants to wear a ‘ridiculous’ dress to MY wedding – she makes everything about her, people say it’s ‘insane’

The bride-to-be is worried her mum's dress choices are so over the top, they'll result in some very 'negative attention' towards her

THERE are several unwritten rules when it comes to weddings - including don't upstage the bride.

But according to one bride-to-be, that's something her mum is very much struggling to understand.

, the woman in question shared a selection of "absolutely over the top and ridiculous" dresses her mother was debating to wear on her daughter's wedding day.

The bride-to-be explained how her wedding ceremony and reception are both outdoors and that guests have been requested to wear cocktail attire.

"I know the wedding party usually dresses up more than the guests, but I think these options are absolutely over the top and ridiculous," she explained.

Amongst the options her mother sent over included a very extravagant floor length gold off-the-should gown embezzled with sequins and with a rather high slit above the knee.

She also pinged over a shot of a model wearing a bodycon light gold strappy frock complete with dramatic fringing hem line that she was debating wearing.

Meanwhile, another possibility consisted of a silver gown featuring deep v-neck plungline and a puffy tulle skirt which fell from the waist down...and could easily be mistaken for a bridal dress.

The bride-to-be continued: "My mum has a history of making special days for me, all about her.

"She does it in subtle ways, then when I get upset, she plays the victim.

"This is her way of making the day about her. My wedding dress is simple with no lace, beading, sequence, or anything. Her choices seem over the top and will pull a lot of (negative) attention towards her."

She goes on to say how her mother has asked her for suggestions but hates everything she's sent her - despite insisting she'll get anything she wants her to wear.

I paid £31 for my wedding dress from Shein and it's showstopping

"It's not like I'm sending her traditional Mother of the Bride dresses," she said.

"I'm sending modern ones that are just more simple than what she has been sending me. Keep in mind my mum is 60+ years old and midsize."

The post has since garnered quite the response, with many rushing to the comments section to sympathise with the bride-to-be.

"I thought your wedding was black tie- when I read it was cocktail attire I nearly passed out. Definitely NOT appropriate!" wrote one.

A second agreed: "I don’t want to be that person, but gently, I say these options are insane for a 60 yr old, midsize, mum of the bride, for a cocktail attire reception.

"Maybe 1 or 2 of those would be ok-ish, but all of those combined are crazy.";

A third commented: "The good news is if she wears something like this, people will think she’s insane. So it’s not like she’ll outshine you or anything."

Meanwhile, a fourth noted: "The models for these dresses are about 20 at the oldest.

"She will be mutton dressed as lamb in the most embarrassing way possible.

"Tell her these are absolutely inappropriate and her dress needs to be cocktail length, not champagne and have no embellishments."

Another chimed in: "She's going to embarrass herself if she shows up dressed for the Gala.

"If she wants to impress everyone, she should wear something dignified and shimmery and play the charming hostess."

A further added: "These all look like bride dresses, maybe even just steering to a different colour would be a win here."

And one more chimed in: "Any way I could have a link to #5? Would consider (very seriously) wearing it as my actual wedding dress.

...which would imply that it would be an INSANE thing for mob to wear. Christ."
