Generation most likely to separate after seven years revealed as ‘seven-year itch’ confirmed

MOST divorces take place after seven years — and Generation X couples are the most likely to split, a poll indicates.

The study supports the popular belief in the “seven-year itch” — the time it takes for some partners to become unhappy in a marriage.

And Gen X couples — those now aged between about 44 and 59 — separate at an average age of 43.9, the study suggests.

They cite financial pressures as the main reason for divorcing.

The poll by Divorce-Online.co.uk found divorce similar across all regions.

A spokesman for Divorce-Online.co.uk said: "Our research sheds new light on marriage and divorce trends, confirming the seven-year itch phenomenon is real and particularly affects Generation X couples.

"It is important for couples to recognise the challenges they may face during this time and seek support if needed."
