My garden fence was covered in green algae but it looks brand new in a matter of minutes thanks to a 25p cleaning hack

FANS of the cleaning sensation Mrs Hinch have shared how to tackle grim algae on your garden fence without spending a fortune.

As the UK has a relatively humid climate, many homeowners will be familiar with the struggle of algae turning their garden fences and patios dirty green.

But although the market is full of several cleaning products, as well as different tips and tricks, fans of Mrs Hinch – also known as Sophie Hinchliffe – have come to the rescue with a less expensive solution.

Mrs Hinch, 33, has long been a favourite within the cleaning community, with a huge following of 5million people on  alone.

The star, mum to two kids, rose to fame a few years ago with savvy home hacks and fans have since started dedicated cleaning pages to share tips, as well as seek advice from others.

In one such group,  on Facebook, a couple of people have been wondering about how to effectively get rid of green algae from their fences in time for Spring.

One of them, Ian Bradshaw, asked fellow cleaning enthusiasts: ”Anyone have any tips for cleaning painted fence?

” Has now got green algae on it. Don’t want to jet wash it as don’t want to repaint it!”

As many Brits are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the warmer season to relax in their gardens, Ian’s not the only person looking to spruce up the fence – Gill Bonnick, too, asked others how to tackle the issue.

”How to clean green algae off wooden fence panels?” she wrote in .

Luckily for the two, as well as anyone else dealing with the problem, over a dozen people flocked to comments to share their top solutions.

Whilst the answers varied and offered a great range of tricks, one of the most popular responses advised two common household essentials – washing-up liquid and a brush.

One said: ”Hot soapy water and a big sponge.”

Another chimed in: ”I have same problem, the sun doesn’t get on it.

”I use a sweeping brush dipped in laundry washing liquid and scrub it.”

The cleaning fanatic is also advised to steer clear of a popular cleaning product, as it will only destroy the surface.

”Don’t use bleach or pressure washer – it’ll take paint/wood treatment off.”

”Hot soapy water and a brush,” a third penned.

Other recommendations

”White vinegar spray. It took all ours off in no time,” someone else said.

A few people were raving about , which you can nab from Wickes.

The 2l container sells for £18 – however, one use should cost around £4.50 a time, as the liquid gets diluted.
