IT can be hard to bag a bargain at the supermarket, especially as the cost of groceries continues to go up and up.

However, one bargain hunter has revealed how you can still get major discounts at Asda – despite the retailer changing its reductions.

Taking to the Facebook group Yellow Sticker Shopping Tips, Tricks and Hauls, someone wrote: “Asda use to do the reductions three times but now [the] system is the times only. The percentage varies on quantity.”

“1st reduction is [the] night before (for items expiring tomorrow) [and] 2nd reduction (final reduction) is done afternoon time.

“All stores maybe slightly different in times and even same store maybe different due to staff."

They then added a tip for shoppers "Tip: a lot of people like to go later evenings or maybe Sunday mornings (waiting for shop opening) to find 1st reductions.

"Not reduced much but surely helps save money.

"Food will not go off straight away, depending what type of food, factories usually give extra couple of days while Best Before items is often perfectly fine to eat as long as quality of inside has not changed. Dry food stays fine for a while."

It wasn’t the only advice the Asda worker had for struggling families, as they also recommend using apps like Olio and Too Good To Go to get extra food without breaking the budget.

As for how they know this, the poster commented in the replies section: "I work at Asda's."

Fabulous has reached out to Asda for comment who clarified how reductions work across stores place across stores nationwide.

A spokesperson told Fabulous: “Store colleagues markdown items that are due to go out of date multiple times a day."

They also revealed that the change had been in place for a year, but will still vary from branch to branch.

"The time a product is marked down, and the amount it is marked down by, varies by store and product,” they explained.
