AS A beauty journalist, I've swatched, sniffed and slathered my skin in hundreds of moisturisers.

Many of these have been from luxury brands, with some of the priciest I've tried well over the £100 mark.

However, I'm not one to be swayed by a price tag and actually, many of the best moisturisers I've used have only cost a couple of quid.

These bargain moisturisers can all be picked up on your next shopping trip and won't cost you much more than a tenner.

Some of them are just as good as the buzzy, luxury brands we've seen lighting up social media - and one of the best is just £1.49.

ALDI Lacura Q10 Day Cream

An ALDI shop and quality skincare feel like they don't belong in the same sentence. However, I've been impressed by this day cream.

With its thick, heavily scented formula (which smells exactly like Nivea), I wasn't initially convinced.

Despite being a day cream - which tend to be lightweight, meaning they're invisible and a good base for makeup - this cream left a heavy, white cast on my skin.

Now, I have combination skin - and a very oily forehead - so was concerned that I'd be left with a greasy sheen.

However, after applying my SPF - this moisturiser is SPF20 which is too low to get away without an additional sunscreen - my makeup sat well on my skin.

Surprisingly, this formula made a great primer, even for my oily skin.

Lacura Q10 Day Cream £1.49 from ALDI -

Throughout the day, my skin often feels tight around my cheeks and mouth, meaning I have to rehydrate with mists and setting sprays.

However, my skin felt comfortable and hydrated all day long - despite a bit of battering from wind and rain.

I found an Aldi dupe that’s £72 cheaper than the original - it has the same ingredients as the real thing

I was even more surprised that my makeup stayed put all day, and that the cream's greasy formula hadn't caused it to slip down my face (it's happened before).

Overall, this is an absolute bargain at £1.49, and definitely worth tossing into your trolley.

Waitrose Pure Day Cream

I'll be honest; did I have high hopes for this moisturiser because it came from Waitrose? Yes, I did.

This moisturiser is formulated for sensitive skin and features several soothing ingredients, like chamomile and hydrating aloe vera.

It's also fragrance-free, which is something I always look for in a moisturiser, as perfumed formulas often wreak havoc with my skin.

Waitrose Pure Day Cream, £3.50 from Waitrose -

I was surprised by how lightweight this cream is. The formula resembles the consistency of a water cream, meaning it sinks into your skin and instantly hydrates without leaving a trace.

However, it sadly wasn't quite as hydrating as I first thought, and by late afternoon, my skin was gasping for hydration.

M&S Clarify Oil Free Moisturiser SPF30

Take care when pumping this product from the tube, as this moisturiser has a very watery texture.

However, when applied, it has a pleasant, lightweight feel, that absorbed into my skin in seconds.

What's more, the formula isn't greasy (which is all thanks to being oil-free), and even gave my skin a healthy-looking glow.

Despite being so lightweight, it kept my skin feeling nourished and hydrated all day, even under makeup.

I'm less of a fan of its fragrance, though. This formula is perfumed with a fresh, clean scent, which left my skin sensitive around my cheeks and eyes.

If you're prone to sensitivity like me, I'd give this one a miss, but it's great for those with oily skin.

Superdrug Naturally Radiant Brightening Day Cream

I loved using this moisturiser. Its thick, indulgent texture - which isn't overly oily or greasy - offers an instant shot of hydration.

Despite feeling heavy, the formula sunk into my skin and didn't leave a white cast.

Whilst I usually hate any fragrance in a moisturiser, this formula smells like hot cross buns - which was absolutely delightful - and didn't leave my skin feeling sensitive.

Superdrug Naturally Radiant Brightening Day Cream, £7.99 from Superdrug -

As this formula is only SPF15, you'll definitely need to apply an additional SPF afterwards.
Sadly, when I layered my SPF on top of this moisturiser, my complexion started to feel quite greasy.

Applying makeup on top of this moisturiser was a breeze, but I did notice that my forehead seemed more oily than usual throughout the day.

That said, the formula kept my skin hydrated all day long - a definite win for a cream that cost £7.99.
