I bought my dad a gift for his birthday but it completely destroyed our family when a secret of 40 years was uncovered
A MAN has revealed how he has destroyed his entire family with a birthday gift.
After grabbing a DNA kit to look at the family line - he noticed a rather big secret that had been kept under wraps.
Taking to social media, he said: "I’ve always been curious as to my full ancestry. My parents always told me it was mostly European, English and Irish on my mum’s side and German on my dad’s. We just never really knew much else."
He added that both of his parents had blue eyes while he had deep brown, which although wasn't genetically impossible, was rare.
After losing his mum back in 2017, he was eager to find out more about his ancestry and as his dad's birthday was coming up, got him one as well.
Once he had purchased the kits from 23AndMe he registered the two kits together so they could compare the results.
But they got more than they bargained for.
He continued: "Once I saw our results had come back, I went in and checked out our comparisons and my heart just dropped...
"“YOUR GENETIC RELATIONSHIP: We do not detect shared DNA between you and . This means you likely do not share ancestors in the last 4 generations.”"
He went on to add that his parents had been married for 17 years before he was born and another 40 years after until his mum passed away.
"They had a wonderfully beautiful marriage, and to this day my dad still brags that they never fought over anything," he continued.
"And I had to call my dad, sobbing, to tell him our genetic tests reveal that he may very well not be my biological father."
But his father refused to believe the test results and was 'adamant that no funny business ever happened.'
He added that he still loved his dad but was now left wondering where he came from if he wasn't his biological parent.
One person wrote: "Still your Dad."
Another commented: "It’s possible the test can be wrong and I’m sure the site has a disclaimer for these situations. A few things can go wrong with these test."
"Just like the slim chance of your eyes being brown, could be a slim chance of a faulty test. Even then, your Dad still loves you," penned a third.
