People have slated her dress, saying it is way too tight and short.

It would be far better, they said, for a date night - but not a wedding.

The guest bravely posted her dilemma - with pictures of the offending dress - on Reddit.

In her , she asked the online forum if her outfit was "appropriate for a wedding?"

She was left in no doubt about the views of Redditors, who, as usual, didn't hold back.

This lady had several issues to deal with. It was her first-ever wedding and she had to consider cultural implications.

"It’s my boyfriends best friend’s wedding and it’s a Pakistani/American wedding," she explained.

"There is no dress code and it’s being held at a banquet hall in NJ."

In her post, she showed off the dress in question. It was a short, thigh-length, bodycon dress, with ruching down the front.

"My boyfriend says my dress is good, but I’m not sure if it’s too tight/short or even wedding-appropriate," she said.

"My boyfriend is Indian so that’s why I was trying to rely on him to help me. It’s a Pakistani wedding but very Americanized.

"There will be a lot of mixed cultures there and I don’t want to stand out," she wrote in her appeal to Redditors for advice.

Their reaction was universal: Find another dress.

This person summed up the view of others: "No. It’s too short, tight, and casual. It looks great on you but more for date night than a wedding."

"Ummmmm … no!!! Lol… way too short!!!" another agreed.

It was a similar reaction from this person: "Too tight and short. I could be wrong but I’d imagine a Pakistani wedding would be more conservative."

But this person had a suggestion: "I’d go for something longer and a little more glamorous. From what I know of Middle Eastern/South Asian weddings, they tend to go all out."
