I went into labour after eating an extra spicy chicken wing in Nando’s — my daughter was born just two hours later
AN expectant mum went into labour in Nando’s — just as she polished off an extra spicy chicken wing.
Emily Carroll, 25, dashed to hospital after her waters broke as she finished a peri-peri platter then was back at home with her newborn daughter within just two hours.
She said daughter Alya was born just four minutes after she arrived at hospital and came out weighing 7lb 14oz — about the same as five Nando’s whole chickens.
The teacher, from Ystradgynlais, Powys, left midwives stunned by the rapid delivery on December 22 — among the fastest recorded in Britain.
She told The Sun: “I had literally just finished my extra hot chicken — so I’m pretty sure that’s what did it.”
Pregnant Emily had tried all sorts of tricks, such as raspberry tea, to start labour but without luck.
So she headed out for the spicy treat with partner Cellan Davies, 29, at Nando’s in Morfa Retail Park, Swansea, when her waters broke.
She said: “I love a cheeky Nando’s so Cellan and I even joked that it had to happen there of all places.”
She dashed to Brecon War Memorial Hospital, where midwives discovered she was already 10cm dilated.
Emily added: “They told me, because it’s my first child, it could take a while so I wasn’t in any rush.”

On average, childbirth for first-time mums takes between 12 and 24 hours.
But baby Alya was out within just four minutes.
Emily said: “It was the calmest moment of my life.
“It just took two pushes and she was out.
“The midwife even had to catch her because she bounced off my leg when she came out.
“She fired out like a water pistol.”
And about an hour later Emily and plasterer Cellan were given the green light to head home.
The couple — along with baby Alya — have even been back to Nando’s for a meal since.
