Starbucks worker reveals 9 drinks to order if you want to annoy them & why it’s a bad idea to get an ‘extra hot’ latte

Your favourite drink order could make you the barista's least favourite customer

A FORMER Starbucks barista has revealed the frustrating drink orders that were her least favourite to make.

Monica MacDonald worked for the coffee shop for two years, and while she loved the jobs, there were some orders that she was glad to see the back of.

The Starbucks barista revealed the most annoying drinks customers order

“Some drink requests required a lot of extra steps or just didn’t quite make sense. Other orders were needlessly complicated or just plain frustrating to prepare,” she wrote for Business Insider.

S’mores Frappuccinos

Most people are aware of the secret menu at Starbucks – where you can completely customise your order to make whatever drink you fancy – but it’s not always fun for the barista.

This particular drink is made with a special marshmallow flavoured whipped cream – which has to be made on site.

To top it off, the drink is made by layering chocolate sauce and vanilla frappuccino in a cup and then topped with the cream and crumbled Graham crackers.

Monica explained this was a nightmare to make because of the different steps and time it takes to make perfect.

Dry Cappuccinos

Cappuccinos are known to have frothed up milk – but for those wanting just froth on top of their espresso know it can be a total pain for the person making your coffee.

Especially when it is made with dairy-free milk.

She : “The proteins in non-dairy milk are not as strong as they are in cow’s milk and thus it can’t keep air bubbles quite as well.”

That means you end up with maainly just steamed liquid rather than foam.

Extra Hot Lattes

Starbucks coffee machines are set to heat up the milk to a certain temperature – and for good reason.

Asking for an extra hot drink can cause you harm, especially if you order it often as it can cause damage to your esophagus.

Plus, extra hot milk can actually burn the coffee and milk destroying the flavour.

Pour-over Coffee

While a pour-over coffee isn’t particularly difficult to make, Monica explains it can be a pain when the coffee shop is busy as they are made to order for each customer.

“Pour-overs require the barista to grind the coffee, prepare the special filter with the grounds, fill a watering-can-like container with the appropriate amount of water, and then pour the water very slowly over the coffee grounds into the cup,” she explained.

Ordering loads of sweetener will not get you in their good books

Extra Sweet

Ordering more than three sweeteners or sugars in your drink is bound to hold up the queue.

Monica explained that baristas are more than happy to add them in, so long as there aren’t too many.

If you do like an extra sweet drink with more than three sugars she suggests heading to the condiment bar and doing it yourself.

Iced Green-tea Lattes

Matcha powder can be tricking to blend – especially when it’s a cold drink and won’t be melted.

But ordering it without ice is even worse as it results in big clumps of matcha in the drink.

Upside-down Caramel Macchiato

A Caramel Macchiato is probably one of the most popular drinks on the menu says Monica.

The drink is made with vanilla syrup, milk, espresso shots on top and a drizzle of caramel sauce on top.

But what really annoys baristas is ordering an upside down version.

She revealed that ‘it’s pretty much just a fancy way of ordering a vanilla latte with caramel drizzle.’

Iced Cappuccinos

This drink is a point of controversy as unless the customer specifies it is made with hot foam making the ice melt quickly.

Monica added that most people who order it have no idea what the drink actually is and she has to end up making them something else.

No-foam Cappuccinos

A no-foam cappuccino can be super baffling for baristas.

The whole point of the drink is to have foam on top – so ordering it without just doesn’t make any sense.

She added that without the foam it was ‘basically just a latte.’
