My mother-in-law crossed a major boundary with my daughter – now my husband’s angry, people say he’s the real problem

Many told her to evaluate her relationship with her spouse

GETTING comfortable with your in-laws may take time but is often the goal for newlyweds.

One woman, however, says that her mother-in-law is much too comfortable.

The Redditor described her dilemma in a forum.

The British Redditor explained that her mother-in-law had crossed a boundary with her daughter that made her uncomfortable.

"AITA for getting mad at my MIL when she asked my daughter to call her 'mom' even though MIL knows that my daughter calls me 'mum/mummy'?" she asked.

"I got mad at my MIL because I feel like she is undermining my role as a mom, overstepping boundaries, makes things confusing to my daughter, and just blatantly disrespectful."

She revealed that she confronted her mother-in-law about the situation, which only made things worse after her husband found out and became angry.

"My husband got angry because of this confrontation, saying that I disrespected his mother. He also said I was making a big deal out of nothing and was playing the victim for being overly sensitive," she said.

Her husband stopped talking to her even after the fight and even left to spend New Year's Eve with his mother, leaving his wife and two kids.

People took to the comments to share their thoughts on the situation.

Many thought the Redditor had bigger fish to fry than her issues with her mother-in-law.

"So your husband has zero respect for you, bashed you instead of standing up for you, left you and your kids alone... but your issue is with your MIL?" asked one commenter.

"Girl, your MIL is the least of your problems to worry about."

Others couldn't help but agree: "If OP’s spouse was my husband? I’d toss his a** back out into the sea," said another.

"We don’t have to put up with a**hole spouses, either."
