PARTY PEOPLE

I’m a gypsy – we love hosting New Year’s parties but there’s a controversial thing we’ll ask for on the door

MANY of us will have woken up with sore heads this morning after New Year’s Eve celebrations last night.

But according to one traveller no one throws a NYE bash quite like the travelling community.

Taking to Reddit the ‘Educated English Traveller’ explained some of the biggest aspects of ‘Gypsy culture’ including New Year’s traditions.

In her post the traveller revealed that whatever the occasion, they like a party but they come with a catch if you want to attend.

She wrote: “Travellers also have pay-parties for teenagers.

“A Travelling teenager will hire out somewhere with a bar to host a party, then will charge a price at the door (typically £20) and usually loads go.

“This allows the host to make a small profit and allows a party for young Travellers to socialise.

“Many young Travellers go to pay-parties same for New Years, Easter, Halloween, etc, although many happen on random days throughout the year.”

The traveller went on to reveal other socialising traditions in her community.

She added: “Young Travellers usually meet up in a town once a week, usually every Sunday, in a town, where they go for food, shisha bars, to drive around and generally just to socialise with other young Travellers.

“Travelling men also often meet up with the men in the local community, and Travelling women also often meet up with the women in the local community.”

It comes after traveller Suzy revealed the real reasons that gypsy weddings are so big in a recent TikTok video.

Suzy says this also goes for the after-wedding dress, while you want to be able to dance in while still letting everyone know you just got married.

A horse and cart to ride from the wedding in is also essential, and it better be pink, otherwise it isn't 'gypsy.'

To accessorise your outfit, Suzy recommends the blingiest shoes you can get your hands on.

Suzy hints that the bigger the dress and the more over the top the wedding is will make you stand out in the community - especially if you're not from it.

The same goes with your tiara, and once again, the bigger it is the better.
