SUGAR CRUSH

B&M shoppers ‘gutted’ as they open DIY candy floss machine and are disappointed at what’s missing

CHRISTMAS is a time for sweet treats, whether it’s yule logs, gold coins or festive shortbread biscuits.

Having exhausted their stocking fillers, one mum decided to use a B&M candy floss kit with her kids – only to discover that one key ingredient was missing.

If you’ve been to the discount store in recent weeks, you’ll know that B&M has been stocked to the brim with kids’ craft sets.

Whether it’s Hey Duggee cupcake kits, DIY slime or even the highly sort after Squishmellow activity set, there is something keep little ones of all ages occupied – at least for a few minutes.

With most schools not going back for at least another week, one mum decided to indulge her kids and bought them a candy floss machine to use.

Despite having more than enough sweets on Christmas Day, they were excited to test it out but found a key ingredient was missing.

She later spoke about their disappointment in the B&M Bargain, Extreme Money Saving Deals & More group on Facebook, revealing that the product didn’t have anything to make candy floss with.

The mum explained: “Did anyone get the B&M candy floss machine for Christmas? They’ve opened it today but nothing in to make candy floss and the kids are gutted.”

Whilst you’d think B&M might have put the ingredients in a small sachet, the mum was left scratching her head and wrote: “I’m not sure what I need to buy to put in it.”

Thankfully, the Facebook group had a simple solution for her.

It turns out you can have all the fun of the fair at home, by simply mixing sugar and food dye together to create candy floss.

One user explained: “You put sugar in for white candy floss or you can buy coloured dyes online."

Continuing, they wrote: “Just 2 table spoons of sugar, turn it on and when the strands start, turn the stick around the edge and the floss will stick to it.”

Others agreed, with another adding: “Just normal sugar. Or any hard boiled sweets such as Wether’s Originals.”

A third even suggested that you could by finely ground sugar for candy floss on Amazon, whilst a fourth found theirs at Tesco.

Whilst one family might have found their missing ingredient, they were the only ones who were let down by the DIY sweet treats.

Another mum revealed that she’s had a similar experience with the candyfloss and popcorn machine last year, after not checking the label.

“I got it last year and the popcorn maker, neither in both and my kids were gutted.”

She joked: “ I bought different flavours off Amazon. Normal sugar doesn’t taste as good.”

However, it’s an easy mistake to make with all the stress before Christmas Day.

In fact, the mum admitted that the popcorn machine had been a last minute purchase as they ‘kept selling out’ in B&M before she finally managed to snag one.

Hopefully, she remembers to check the label next time.
