Oh Baby

I let my sons pick my newborn baby’s name and even the registrar was stunned by Christmas-theme

The little boys were told to think of something that made them 'happy' before deciding their baby brother's name.

BABY names are a source of endless arguments for parents, with them spending hours squabbling over whether to add in their great uncle’s moniker.

Having ‘used up’ all her baby names, one mum let her kids choose their younger brother’s name and even the registrar was shocked by the result.

Whilst most mums wouldn’t dream of letting their little ones decide, Eliza Flynn wasn’t so concerned when she set her young sons Arthur, six, and Hector, three, the challenge.

In fact, the pre-and postnatal trainer was slightly relieved having already ‘used up’ her baby names on her two tots.

Struggling to come up with a middle name for her third baby, the mum asked her two sons to help her pick.

“We had no idea what they would call him,” she admitted to , adding: "I originally wanted Jasper, but I had a ferret called that and that also got vetoed.

“We also liked Casper but people said [it] was like the ghost.”

With no middle name, the mum encouraged her two boys to think of things they ‘loved’ or made them 'happy' to name their baby brother.

Of course, Arthur and Hector had some rather naughty initial suggestions - including ‘bum bum head’ and ‘presents’.

Despite barely knowing how to read and write though, the little lads eventually settled on a surprisingly sweet name.

It was so unusual that even the registrar was shocked by the middle name.

Caspian Snow Flynn Gash was in March 2022, with his brothers picking the names because of the happy memories they had of being in snow.

"I think we'd just had some snow and some of their fondest memories were from being the snow, explained Eliza, saying: “We initially thought it was a little weird and then thought it sounded fun."

Initially though, Dad Ben wasn’t so keen on the festive moniker with the kids and Eliza having to convince her hubby.

"I am the more fun person when it comes to things like this, I think it was very much my idea to let the boys do it,” she teased, telling the newspaper: “Once they had got into it and were excited about it was harder for my husband to say no.”

Their loved ones weren’t so thrilled either, with a few ‘raised eyebrows’ over the newborn’s name.

Even the registry staff were shocked, revealing that they’d never had a ‘Snow’ registered before.

However, the trainer now says she can’t imagine her son having any other name.

She added: "Caspian's name reflects him well, he's an all round jolly child and I think his name makes him more interesting.

“I think he will grow up to be an interesting person," Eliza revealed, saying that people often associate her son with Game of Thrones' Jon Snow because of it.

We just hope he won’t have as many tragedies as the moody character.
