Money-making pro’s top side hustles could earn you up to £10k extra in 2024 – and you’ll have time to do more than one

Although it’s worth noting that new HMRC regulations from January 2024, state earnings of more than £1,000 a year from side hustles must be declared.  Failure to declare the income, could results in a minimum £100 fine, increasing by £10 a day for three months. 

With that in mind experts at has provided a list of the top five side hustles to earn you a little (or a lot) extra in 2024.

1.     Selling clothes online  

The popularity of second-hand clothes shopping is soaring among consumers and Vinted is the most downloaded shopping app in the UK. 

How much you could earn depends on how much you sell – the average Vinted order value is £13. Selling just one item of clothing every month could see you earn an extra £312 a year. 

2.     Pet sitting  

There’s year-round demand for pet sitters, making it a great option for remote workers and those looking to travel. 

Depending on location and previous experience, the average rate for a pet sitter is between £10-£15 an hour. If you were to look after a pet for 12 hours a week, you could earn £9,360 extra per year. 

3.     Online tutoring 

Depending on your qualifications and experience, you could earn between £15-£40 an hour tutoring GCSE and A-level students online. Tutoring two students for two hours each could net you an extra £160 a week, or £8,320 a year. 

There are no specific training requirements across all companies, but you can usually expect to tutor students up to the level of your own qualifications. 

4.     Social media influencing  

By starting a blog or creating a community on Instagram or TikTok, you can make money through brand outreach and affiliate marketing. 

Nano-influencers, defined as having less than 1,000 followers, can command between £125-£250 per sponsored post. A single sponsored post a month could see you earn an extra £3,000 a year. 

5.     Freelance writing  

Freelance writers and copywriters using platforms such as Upwork and Fiverr have the added benefit of being able to work anywhere, making it one of the most attractive side hustles to both remote and hybrid workers.   

Freelance writers charge differently based on their experience, but the average hourly rate for high-quality written work is £50-£75. If you were to write one article a week, your income could increase by £3,900 a year.
