A BODY positivity content creator has hit back at cruel trolls who insist she should be exercising rather than going on dates.

For years, Brinta Ponnuthurai, better known to her 135k fans on Instagram as , struggled with her confidence and self-esteem - she bought her first-ever cream to banish stretch marks at the young age of 15.

''I had horrible acne as a teenager, so the texture of my skin was often made fun of even though it’s quite a normal thing for a teenager to go through,'' she added in .

But that's not all of it - growing up as a South Asian girl, Brinta, from Toronto, also faced a lot of judgement from strangers for her skin.

And for years, she experienced a “deep hatred and resentment” towards her appearance.

''In my culture, fair is seen as beautiful and if you were not, then you were a problem that needed to be fixed,'' said Brinta, who's also been viciously trolled online by people who tell her to go to the gym and tone her body.

However, after years of forking out for lightening creams and soaps to achieve a fairer complexion, the young woman realised that enough was enough.

Towards the end of her studies at university, the body confidence influencer was so busy, she barely had time to wear make-up every day or worry about the outfit she was wearing.

''I’d go out into the world make-up-free, in clothing that didn’t hide my dark skin or my stretch marks and well… I didn’t die.''

She added: ''Texture is normal, stretch marks tell our stories and dark is beautiful too.''

The work, though hard, paid off and for the first time ever, Brinta was able to embrace the sun and her skin in a bathing suit earlier this year after jetting off for her honeymoon.

Now, the stunner, who also regularly shares fashion-related content online, uses her platform to help others unlearn the beauty standards that have been drilled into the society ''for centuries''.

Sadly, with a larger social media following and being on a public platform also comes with trolling - and Brinta is no stranger to ''nasty comments'' about her skin and body.

But Brinta has chosen to ignore the negative remarks and doesn't respond to the haters - and she also reminds herself that these people are most likely unhappy with themselves.

''Sending you all this level of peace I finally feel in this body. You deserve that feeling too,'' the plus-size style lover recently told her fans on her page.

''Thick thighs cellulite and all, we’re putting ourselves out there friends! I felt soooooo confident in this skirt holy crap [sic].''

Sharing her tips to those struggling with confidence, Brinta reminded that beauty is the eye of the beholder and you should cherish and honour your skin no matter what.

Instead of waiting for the world’s approval, her message was simple - give yourself permission to show up just as you are.
