KEEPING the house warm during the winter without spending a tonne on heating can be tricky.
Obviously you want to keep whatever warmth is in your house from escaping and there a re a multitude of ways to help.
In fact, home experts at MyJobQuote explained home insulation was the first step to take when tackling cold weather.
While most people assume it's on the expensive side, there are smaller ways to improve it without spending thousands of pounds.
The experts told the : “One approach you can take DIY is to light a match and hold it carefully next to a window frame. Be sure not to get too close if the flame touches the window frame.
“If you notice the flame move despite you being perfectly still, it suggests a draught. You can also use this technique to help determine how many layers your window has."

They added that if you notice one reflection of the flame, it is single-glazed, whereas two and three reflections suggest that your windows are double and triple-glazed.
You can purchase window strips for as little as £2 online for around five metres of tape which will help stop any draught from entering your home and keep the warmth in.
Another major role in keeping your house warm is to prevent wet air.
Buying a dehumidifier can absorb moisture in the air - and some can be purchased for as little as £1.

It may seem simple but locking hot air into the rooms you use most often will also be beneficial.
Try placing a draught stopper underneath your front room door to stop any wind from coming in.
If you don't have one already, you can also roll up a blanket or towel which should do the trick.
