The Princess of Wales couldn't contain her excitement as she watched the dramatic women's singles final at Wimbledon.

Kate, 41, was transfixed in the royal box at Centre Court as Marketa Vondrousova beat Ons Jabeur to claim the grand slam title.

The animated princess was seen watching through her fingers at one point as the final reached its latter stages.

Unseeded Vondrousova fought off stern resistance from her opponent to claim a straight sets 6-4 6-4 victory.

The elated Czech star, who watched last year's final with her arm in a cast, was overjoyed as she received the Wimbledon title from Kate - her first grand slam.

But it was a second consecutive Wimbledon final loss for her opponent Jabeur, who was in tears as she received her runners-up trophy.

She lost out in three sets last summer as Elena Rybakina become the first player from Kazakhstan to win a grand slam title.

Speaking after her victory, Vondrousova told the crowd: "I don't really know what's happening right now, it's an amazing feeling.

"Ons, congratulations, you are such an inspiration to all of us. I hope you will win one day, you are an amazing person. Congratulations to the team.

"After everything I have been through, I had a cast last time, it's amazing I can stand here and hold this. Tennis is crazy.

"I don't know how I've done it. The comebacks are not easy you never know what to expect. I was hoping I could comeback to this level and now I am here.

"I want to thank my box, all you guys are amazing, my little sister is crying up there."

Earlier, taking her seat next to AELTC Chairman Ian Hewitt, Kate gave the cameras a wave flashing an elegant gold bangle.

The princess is patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club and is a regular face at Wimbledon.

Opting for an £420 pastel green dress by Self Portrait Kate Middleton kept her accessories to a minimum but they had sentimental value.

The flower-shaped pearl earrings she could be seen wearing were the very same ones she had worn to her youngest’s christening back in 2018.

It comes after she was last week seen sharing a joke with tennis legend Roger Federer in Wimbledon's Royal Box as she cheered on Andy Murray.

The Princess of Wales looked chic in a green and white ensemble as she took to the stands - just after having to flee the rain when supporting young British star Katie Boulter on nearby court 18.

She had made a rare royal appearance at one of the smaller courts for Boulter's encounter - but headed to Centre Court for Murray's match and a reunion with Federer.

Eight-time Wimbledon champion Federer, who retired last year, had joined Kate in a video before this year's tournament started.

The pair were filmed playing tennis together - with a cheeky ball girl telling Kate that she had broken Wimbledon protocol.
