I love my son’s name but people think it will ‘destroy the kid’s life’ – and everyone’s saying the same thing
A WOMAN has been experiencing second thoughts about her son's name after she sought opinions from an online forum.
Far from reassuring her about her choice, she opened up a proverbial hornet's nest as commenters piled in with their thoughts.
However, she should have found some solace because there were some fans of the name.
But for others, the unusual moniker had unfortunate associations, reminding them of either armageddon or various painful medical conditions.
"What do you think of the name Enda," she asked the online forum .
She explained the reasons behind her selection. "I'm Irish [living] in Ireland, so I'm simply asking what other people think of the name.
After receiving backlash, she added: "Not asking if it will destroy a kid's life lol," she said hopefully of this traditional Irish boy's name.
As far as she was concerned, it was a great name. "I love the name Enda, I just think it has a very nice sound. It's definitely a top contender for me. The meaning is bird or birdlike," she explained.
But she admitted to some reservations: "So far all I've seen is that non-Irish people always seem to mix it up with Edna if it does come up, and other Irish people here just think of Enda Kenny (politician)."
She asked for opinions and she certainly got them from Redditors - over 150 commented to her post - many of which she might wish she had never seen.

For one man, the end of life as we know it came to mind: "'Enda the world.' Sorry, you asked. I just don't like it at all."
To this Redditor it conjured all sorts of images: "Reminds me of a tough old woman who wore house dresses and ankle socks with sneakers to do her grocery shopping."
It's going to get mixed up with a girl's name warned this person: "Enda would definitely be mispronounced or mistaken as Edna. But if you like it go for it. Not personally my taste though."
Medical procedures came to the mind of these commenters: I just [thought] of endoscope and endoscopy," said this person, while another couldn't help but think of endometriosis.
But there were some who considered it a lovely name. "I'm laughing at everyone saying they will be called Edna their whole life - absolutely not in Ireland. Enda is a grand name. Go for it," said a fellow countryman.
Concluding her post, another fan posted their views on the unusual name.
"I think it’s a good strong name and it’s fun to have a clearly Irish name that those of us not from Ireland can also pronounce without having to ask."
