SUMMER HACK

I built a swimming pool for my kids in a DAY – I was sick of waiting to be able to afford one

A SAVVY mum has been dubbed a “genius” after building a DIY swimming pool for her kids in one day.

Arin Solange, 34, decided to make the incredible garden feature after years of wanting her own pool but not wanting to splash the cash.

The mum-of-four, from St Louis, US, has left other parents amazed after showing off the pool she made in her garden for £550.

“I wanted to give this a shot and we felt we could make a cute inexpensive way for the kids to swim all summer,” Arin told NeedToKnow.co.uk.

“The DIY pool with filter and chemicals allows for easy upkeep.

“We love it.

“It was such a cute way to add a more permanent small pool to the yard for our kids.”

Arin and her husband started by buying an eight-foot metal stock tank from a local tractor supplies store for £318 ($400), and then sealed it with Flex Seal.

She said: “We added Flex Seal to the whole pool as a white base – which was purely aesthetic but if you are going to paint you need to use a paint like Flex Seal first to adhere to the metal.”

Next, they painted it with pink stripes for a colourful summer look, before adding a filter.

Arin added: “For the actual pool install it is simply cutting two holes and hooking everything up.

“You have to make sure you get a good seal with the silicone caulk around the holes but it is very simple.”

Purchasing basic supplies from Amazon, they made the stock tank into a functioning pool with the filters and a chlorine dispenser to maintain the freshness.

They spent £238 ($300) on the supplies, including an above ground pool pump, plunger valves, threated inlet strainer, silicone caulk, the chlorine dispenser, chlorine tablets and liquid chlorine, pool water test trips, and a pool cover.

The finished look shows a pastel round pool with perfectly blue water ready for enjoying a dip and cooling off during the summer months.

In the video, DIY buff Arin says: “It was honestly one of my favourite projects to date.”

Arin shared the transformation on TikTok, where she was branded a “genius”.

The clip quickly went viral, with 10 million views and one million likes after revealing how she created it, spending just £550 ($700 USD).

One person commented: “This is the cutest little pool ever.”

“I have wanted for foreverrrrrer I’m so jealous,” said another fan. [sic]
