I’m a master gardener – here’s the ‘absolute best’ method to ‘kill’ pesky patio weeds for less than £1

THERE’S nothing worse than getting your garden ready for summer, only for it to be taken over by weeds in the space of a few days. 

And they’re not just an eyesore - these pesky plants can weaken and damage your patio too.

Some of us will try to rip them out one by one or turn to harsh chemical treatments that can ultimately be bad for both the environment and animals. 

Luckily keen gardeners have revealed the best way to kill pesky patio weeds is with a splash of white vinegar - and this should cost you no more than £1 from your local supermarket. 

Posting in the group on Facebook, green-fingered Lynne Powell asked fellow gardeners how to tackle the common problem. 

She wrote: “What can I use to kill the weeds in between my paving slabs please?”

Her question attracted plenty of attention, gaining more than 45 comments from other members of the group. 

One replied: “The absolute best way to kill patio weeds down to the root is white vinegar, knocks them out instantly.”

Another suggested: “I agree, white vinegar works a treat on paving weeds.”

“Use white vinegar mixed with water. Be careful though, it kills any plant it touches so watch it if you have lawn nearby,” suggested another.

According to experts at , this is one of the quickest ways to kill weeds - especially if mixed with washing-up liquid.

On their website, it states: “Dish soap, vinegar and a spray bottle are all you need for making your own weed killer. 

“The acetic acid in vinegar “sucks out the water” from the weed, which dries it up. The dish soap helps to break down the outer coat of the plant (cuticle), which helps that vinegar to work best.”

Shoppers can pick up white vinegar from various retailers, including Sainsbury’s and Wilko, with prices starting at just 40p.
