I laid my own patio but one side looks completely different to the other – turns out I made a key mistake
AFTER ordering over a thousand bricks and laying it all out to make her patio, one woman was left baffled by the results of her hard work.
With summer just around the corner, people up and down the country are looking for ways to upgrade their gardens and patios.
But DIY isn’t the easiest thing to do - a fact Marie knows all too well.
Taking to the Facebook group DIY Home Improvement Projects and Advice, the woman shared a photo of her patio and asked for help.
The picture showed one half of the patio with light-coloured bricks laid out, while the other half looked drastically darker.
“Hi everyone! We made this patio ourselves but we’re curious why the stones look like different colors,” [sic] Marie wrote in the group.

She added: “We ordered 1600 of the same bricks so I don’t know why they’re discolored. They’re not wet!” [sic]
With over 200 comments, people were quick to share their thoughts on the issue as one person wrote: “They are a few different shades, meant to be mixed up”.
Another chimed: “rip it all out, mx them up and start over. Next time shuffle them up first.” [sic]
A third shared: “Your supposed to mix em up before you start,” [sic] while a fourth added: “Try moving or rearranging a few near the colour change and make a checker pattern for the transition.”

Others, meanwhile, focused on the positive and tried to provide useful suggestions on what to do to fix the problem.
One suggested they use concrete paint and cover the entire patio to make it a neutral, unified colour.
Another said: “It’s just like installing flooring you have to alternate boxes you pull from otherwise you’ll end up with this. Not every single piece is going to be identical. You’ll have to alternate all of the pieces or as some have mentioned just stain the whole patio”.
And a third chimed: “Stain them with grey stain, will make it uniform”.
