I’m a McDonald’s addict – I spend nearly £2k a year on Big Macs & people say I stink but I don’t care
WE all love a cheeky trip to McDonald’s now and then, but could you eat there everyday?
22-year-old Darcy Hutchinson, a from Manchester, is so addicted to McDonald’s, she can barely last 24 hours without a meal.
Darcy spends about £30 a week on McDonald’s food for breakfast, lunch or dinner - that’s almost £2,000 a year - and she’s a sucker for a bargain.
“Walking past the alluring smell of freshly-fried salty goodness multiple times a day is a temptation I can rarely resist,” admits Darcy. “If I can get a cheeseburger for 99p I’ll always get that over cooking a meal.
“There’s a McDonald’s so close to my flat, I’d much rather have a McChicken than pesto pasta for the fourth night in a row.”
Darcy’s addiction began at university as an easy hack to avoid cooking in the kitchen. Now she’s so hooked on the fast food, she’s earned a hilarious nickname.

“Everyone calls me ‘McDarcy’. I’m such a big fan, I’m surprised Ronald McDonald hasn’t been in touch” she laughs. “I fill the office bin full with McDonald’s packaging and everyone calls me unhealthy but how bad can it be?
“I buy a cheesy bacon flatbread every morning for £1.98. It’s less than 300 calories and it keeps me going right through till lunch. I still get my 5-a-day elsewhere.
“At lunchtime, my colleagues head to the local pasty van and I sneak off to grab a Big Mac. It’s not even that bad for you and I’d much rather eat a Maccies than their boring food.”
For the last four years. Darcy has enjoyed McDonald’s for breakfast, lunch or dinner every single day, and she doesn’t care if people think she’s gross or unhealthy.

She’s super trim with not a single spot on her face but, she confesses: “People do say I stink of greasy Big Macs. Whenever I collect a meal from the restaurant or eat it at my flat, the smell clings to my clothes and lingers for days.
“My flatmate isn’t too impressed, but she’s not even surprised anymore.”
Darcy might look picture perfect while she eats her burgers and fries, but inside she’s desperate for a wash.
“That’s the only downside of McDonald’s,” she reveals. “The food is so greasy I feel like I need a shower as soon as I’ve finished eating.
“The food has made me really lazy too. I’ll leave leftover fries in the fridge for days, but they make great cheesy chips - just shove them in the oven for 10 minutes and add cheese, it’s the perfect hangover cure.”
If Darcy’s had a really wild night, nothing hits the spot better than a multi-meal.
“I’ve eaten a Big Mac meal, a McChicken Sandwich, a full fat Coke and a share box of cheese bites in one go before,” she claims. “I felt so sick afterwards but I have no regrets.”
If you think there’s a chance of Darcy going cold turkey, you can think again. The addict has managed seven whole days without her guilty pleasure, but one night out ruined everything.
“All it takes is a glass of booze and I’m craving a Big Mac,” she confesses. “McDonald’s restaurants are everywhere and I can smell the food from a mile away - I can’t resist.”
If you thought McDonald’s was just for fast food, you’re totally wrong, says Darcy, who actually buys her milk from her local Maccies.
“My local Maccies is closer than the supermarket, which closes super early on a Sunday,” she says. “I’m a tea addict too and I head straight to McDonald’s for my milk when the shops are shut - it’s such a handy life hack.”

If there’s one thing Darcy would change about her beloved Maccies - it’s the cheese menu. Ronald McDonald, listen up.
“I’d have to say that the mozzarella dippers are a bit bland, but the nacho cheese bites are my all time favourite. If McDonald’s made these a regular menu item, you wouldn’t be able to keep me out of there!”
