A FASHION pro has found the perfect bargain dress for summer - but suggests it’s only worth forking out on one colourway.

Alex Stedman took to TikTok to share her first impressions of Marks & Spencer’s Cotton Rich Puff Sleeve Midi Tiered Dress, priced at just £39.50.

After seeing various posts about the dress online, former fashion editor Alex decided to give both colours a go to see if either is worth splashing out on.

Sadly she only recommended chasing down the black, suggesting the white was a little see-through and didn’t look quite as expensive.

Known online as , the content creator regularly shares her bargain fashion finds and styling tips with her 17,800 followers.

In a new reel, she said: “I bought this dress from Marks & Spencer’s. The black has sold out.

“I am really on the lookout for a black versatile dress after I burnt a hole in my favourite COS one.

“So let’s see if this matches up.

“I bought the black and the white to try”

During the one-minute video, Alexandra is seen trying on both the black and white versions of the cotton-tiered midi dress.

Sharing her first impressions of the black, she continued: “My first thoughts are that it’s not 100 per cent cotton. I was really hoping for it to be a bit more of a throw-on piece.

“And it’s got buttons at the back.

“Feel like it feels nice.”

Attempting to do up the buttons single-handedly, she added: “A bit more fiddly than I’d like.”

Talking about the sleeves, she also said: “I’d love these to not be elastic.

“Not too tight across [the chest] which is nice. It’s got pockets.

“It hasn’t got the float that I would like. I’d like a bit more swish, but for £39.50 it’s pretty good.”

The fashion fan then goes on to share her thoughts on the white version of the dress, adding: “This kind of fabric, because you kind of have to scrunch it over your head, I’m already worrying about makeup.

“I’m wearing non-white underwear so you can see how see-through it is.

“And yeah, I just don’t think it looks as expensive.

“Still quite useful for holiday, but I feel like in the white you can see the kind of flaws in the fabric more.

“Definitely don’t think you can get away with not ironing it as well.

“So, unfortunately, I’m team sold-out black dress.”

Shoppers can grab the white version of the cotton-tiered midi dress online and in-store, while the black appears to be sold out for the time being.

However, they can set up an email or text alert for when their size comes back in stock.

Fans loved her honest review, with the video gaining more than 2,400 likes and 125,000 views.

In the comments, TikTokkers shared their reactions - but sadly quite a few weren’t fans.

One wrote: “Sounds quite noisy….”

“it looks cheap,” commented another.

A third said: “I love the style on you but I just don’t think they’re worth keeping for £40!”

Someone else put: “I have a similar dress from TK Maxx in burgundy, only realised from some photos that I look like a tent wearing it.”

Although the style was a hit with some, with another adding: “I love these but daren't buy white as I know I’ll get it mucky, I want a black!!!”

“Bought one very similar in Asda last year £20 & love it,” someone else shared.
