We tested lightweight moisturisers – one is perfect for any skin type
WHETHER you’re a beauty buff or beginner, even the most low-maintenance among us is likely to use a moisturiser.
This week I’ve tried three lightweight options that promise hydration without any greasiness
Budget
INKEY List Omega Water Cream, 50ml (£9.99, uk.theinkeylist.com):
Don’t be fooled by the minimal packaging.
This no-nonsense gel moisturiser is packed with skin-loving ingredients including omega fatty acids, glycerin, betaine and niacinamide.
There’s a slight slip to it so it’s easy to apply over the face without having to massage, but it melts in almost immediately, leaving little to no residue.
If you’re super-oily or have combination skin, you will love it. It’s also oil-free, so a brilliant choice for breakout-prone skin as it won’t block pores.
I can imagine it’ll be my go-to in a few months when the weather warms up, but for now I like something that leaves more moisture behind to cushion any dry patches when I apply my foundation.
Mid-range
OSKIA Violet Water Hydra Gel, 50ml (£56, cultbeauty.co.uk):
With this cream, a little goes a really long way, so the pot lasts ages and you only need a pea-sized amount for the whole face.
As well as being almost weightless, the clarifying moisturiser contains colloidal silver, vitamin C, niacinamide and a micro-plankton complex that reduce sebum production and treats breakouts, as well as reducing scarring and pigmentation without being overly irritating or drying like many stand-alone spot treatments are.
It has a nice cooling sensation when you apply, which is great if your skin is particularly angry or inflamed.
Plus, because it helps control oil production, it doesn’t leave a shiny finish, making it suitable for combination, oily, blemished or acne-prone skin.
That said, if your skin is on the drier side, it might not be hydrating enough.
Luxury
TATCHA The Silk Cream, 50ml (£123, spacenk.com):
If I’d seen the price tag before I opened this pot of gold, I’m not sure I’d have ever tried it – but now I can’t imagine using anything else.
It feels rich yet weightless on the skin, with the almost jelly-like texture creating a velvet-soft veil of moisture on top of my face which provides a seamless base for make-up.
With a fermented complex of rice, algae and green tea to reduce inflammation and boost the skin barrier, I also noticed reduced redness.
However, I had a nasty cold last week and it began to sting the skin around my nose where I had been blowing it, so if you’re sensitive or fragranced products irritate you, maybe look elsewhere.
Otherwise, start saving up now.
