I built a treehouse in my garden & charge people £200 a night to stay on Airbnb – I’ve made enough cash to quit my job

A COUPLE has revealed how they built a treehouse in their garden and now charge people up to £200 a night to rent it out.

Will and Sabrina Sutherland made £24,000 in their first year, and Will has now been able to quit his job thanks to its success.

When they looked round the four-acre property that they now own, Will saw the potential to get creative with the land.

Speaking to he said: “I saw two trees sitting over a rock ledge and wanted to put a treehouse there. At the time, it was a pipe dream that I never thought I would actually be able to do.

“I built the treehouse by myself, and it took me about six and a half months.”

When he told wife Sabrina of his plans to list the treehouse on , she was “all for” the idea.

However, she had one requirement - that Will also build another bathroom for guests to use.

The couple already had a converted school bus on their land that they rented out to guests, but these visitors were currently using their bathroom in the house.

In order to keep Sabrina happy, Will set about building a separate bathroom with a shower and a toilet, that guests of both rentals now use.

The treehouse features a main queen bed and there is also a loft bedroom that is “great for kids.”

It doesn’t have running water, but there is a “five-gallon water tank for hand-washing and brushing teeth” and a hot plate if they wish to heat some water up.

Will now charges between £128 and £200 a night on Airbnb depending on the time of year and the treehouse is often “fully booked for months”.

It brought in £24,000 in the first year alone, and combined with the earnings from the school bus, Will has been able to quit his job.

He added: “I now have a lot more time to help friends and family with projects, and daydream about new things I want to make. I also get to see them come to fruition sooner than I used to with my full-time job.”
