Some bemused viewers took the social media to share what the picture really shows.
Despite knowing what the photo is really of, people have claimed they’re still having trouble seeing the car.
Hundreds of people commented on the image after it ended up on , with one person said: “I can still see the beach. I can see the car if I want, but the beach is better.”
Someone else said: “If I focus on that larger pebble I see the car, otherwise it’s a beach.”
A third said: “I still don’t know. I can only see the beach. Someone help?”
While someone else added: "Am I trippin? Because I really see the beach."
Explaining the illusion, one person claimed the image was an example of ‘confirmation bias’.
They said: “It looks like a beach from the thumbnail.
“You already expect, ‘this is a picture of a beach’. This is your first impression, and it's just your feeling.
“Hardly any ‘information’, beyond the picture, but you're confident already.
“Then the caption confirms that with an affirming message, ‘if you see a beach then you're an artist’.
“Then once it's revealed what it actually is, your brain struggles to see it as anything but a beach.
“That's how quickly our brains create those connections in our heads.”
