Dame Vanessa Redgrave, 87, looks stylish as she collects her damehood at Buckingham Palace
ACTING legend Dame Vanessa Redgrave looked like the world’s most stylish nan as she picked up her damehood gong dressed in an overcoat and comfortable slip-on shoes.
The 85-year-old star, nominated for six Academy Awards during her career and winning one in 1977, was recognised for services to drama.
She was presented the honour by Prince William at Buckingham Palace.
She was accompanied by her daughter, actress Joely Richardson and her son, screenwriter and director Carlo Nero, and his wife Jennifer Nero.
When it was announced she was being made a dame in the New Year Honours, Dame Vanessa said: "I'm surprised and grateful to join this wondrous group of British artists whose work has inspired me and audiences the world over.
"My generation fought for freedom of expression.

Other names announced in the New Year Honours list were Joanna Lumley who was also made a dame, songwriter Bernie Taupin, best known for his long-running collaboration with Sir Elton John, who was made a CBE and TV presenter Kate Garraway who was been made an MBE after documenting her husband Derek Draper's battle with coronavirus.
