How to clean a humidifier
SANITIZING these air moisturizers only requires three household products.
With humidifiers coming into the season as autumn weather falls upon us, it's important to keep your product clean.
How do I clean my humidifier?
To clean your humidifier, you will need:
- Water
- White vinegar
- A cloth
- A small cleaning brush (optional)
First, unplug your appliance and pour out any water inside.
Follow the manufacturer's instructions when you empty water from the humidifier -- you do not want to get moisture in the motor and electrical parts of the base.
Next, pour one cup of water and one cup of white vinegar into the base of the appliance, and let it sit for one hour.
While you're waiting for the base to be clean, disinfect the inside of the water reservoir piece.
Pour two cups of pure white vinegar into the reservoir. After shutting it completely, shake it for several minutes.
This will successfully remove any grime.

Next, hold the reservoir upside down over the sink and let the vinegar solution flow through the nozzle.
Fill the reservoir with water and repeat the previous step.
When the hour has passed, empty the solution from the base, once again making sure no moisture gets into the motor and electrical parts of the appliance.
Soak a cloth in white vinegar and thoroughly wipe the inside of the base. Let it air dry.
You could also use a small cleaning brush, along with more vinegar, to assist in this disinfecting process.
Take the cloth (and cleaning brush if you're using one) and sanitize the outside of your humidifier.
How do I keep my humidifier from getting dirty?
Cleaning your humidifier once a week can prevent grime from building up and mold from forming.
Do not let water stay stagnant in the appliance for too long in order to prevent bacteria.
Implementing the once-per-week sanitizing schedule will do the trick.
What is the purpose of using a humidifier?
Humidifiers can help you beat the dry air and make a cold a little less horrible.
